Default Sleep Number bed

The wife and I went today and purchased a Sleep Number bed. We bought one that the head of the bed raises (something I've always wanted) and the knee also bends. Since we bought that particular bed it will be 2 weeks before we get it. So anyone have one? If so what do you think of it? Thanks Larry

Thumbs up

Hi Larry!

Three couples in our immediate family have Select Comfort/Sleep Number beds. All purchased about 10 years ago and all 6 individuals swear by them. Two of the beds have had minor warranty issues that were handled promptly by the retailer and/or mfg.

From work, our Office Manager and her husband purchased a Sleep Number bed 2 months ago. He, like many of us, has moderate back problems and claims that he is more rested and has higher energy levels than he's had in recent years.

Debra and I will be in the market for a new bed one of these days and we'll certainly give the Sleep Number beds serious consideration.

I suffered from back pain, deep pain in my left arm, and left thigh....for the last two years I was in the cop car. I retired and it certainly lessened, but a few hours in a car seat and it was back.

We bought a queen sized sleep number and within a few weeks my back pain pretty much went away. Have had the sleep # for two years now and LOVE IT!! I laugh when I watch their commercials....as I feel the same way! It HAS changed my liife, couldn't live without it, etc. So nice to live pain free.

My 82 year old Mom recently fell and damaged two discs in her back, requiring surgery. I went out to care for her post Op and replaced her old bed with a Sleep Number. I really feel the bed has helped her with the pain and has contributed to her quick rehab.

They even make PET sleep # beds for older pets! I'd bet they work for canines as well.

We also have the Queen size sleep number bed. We have had it for 4+ years and love it. I was having back pain and shoulder pain daily. The great thing about the queen is that it has two seperate chambers so my wife can have her number set on 30 and mine can be on 70 and we are both happy. No more constant back and shoulder pain for me and I sleep through the night now.
This is one of the best purchases I have ever made.

My sister and her husband had one for about four years. They claimed they hated it and were glad when they went back to a conventional spring and mattress. They didn't really explain why.

I have had my California King since 1999 and I think that it is a really good investment. Although it is not the tilted/knee style.
The only issue that I have with it is that it is so light that it moves around pretty easily and doesn't really keep the linens on the bed quite right, but nothing bad really.
Oh, and since it is light, if you sit on the foot with your partner, (if you know what I mean), the head of the bed will raise. Kind of like a lever if you will.
Other than that, I really like sleeping on the bed.

Same story. The wife has a bad back and needs a hard bed, I like softer. We bought one about 4 years ago and like it.

We've had ours for a year so far and it's GREAT!

We tried two of the new pillow top single sided modern mattresses and they got thrown away in short order.

I'm a "45", what are you?

We got one a couple of years ago. Iloved it. My wife did not like it. We sent it back within the 90 day trial period, however, it cost over $300 to ship the dang thing back. I guess that was cheaper than paying for it and having her unhappy. I never have understood why she did not like it. I would recommend it to anyone.

I didn't know the sleep number mattress could be used on the adjustable beds? Is the foundation (adjustable part) just a regular adjustable bed foundation or is is specific to the sleep number mattress?

I ask because my wife and I have used adjustable beds for years and it is time for new mattresses, and many mattresses don't hold up well to adjustable bed use.

We love the adjustable beds as you can lounge around in bed in the sitting up position, kind of like a glorified recliner chair. Watch tv, use the laptops, read etc. Being able to raise the knees is sometimes very helpful with knee or leg pain as well. Plus they are useful for positioning purposes for other bedroom activities as well.

Default What's the cost?

I have been thinking about getting one of these in queen size. Probably not the adjustable bed type just a regular flat one. I have suffered from lower back pain for about 20 years and in the last year I have been suffering from upper back pain as well. I have Schuermans Disease which doesn't help as it's a degenerative condition that causes a rounding of the vertebrae. I see a chiro once a week and that will probably be the case for as long as possible.

Hello Wayne02 the adjustable bed is called a split King. The reason we have to wait a couple of weeks is that they make them as they are ordered. Can't wait to get it, I've wanted an adjustable bed for years but the wife wouldn't have anything to do with it (says it's a sign of old age) she must of been feeling old cause I've finally got my wish. Thanks Larry

mtb1bkr the price was around 4900 it had 1,000 off. This is less then we paid for the bed we bought 7 years ago so I'm ok with the cost since it's got all the adjustable stuff I've wanted for years. It also has a massage feature that I'm not all that excited about but Linda is. Fortunately since it is a split king she can have her's on and I don't have to. Thanks Larry

We don't have any personal experience with one, however, we have friends who ordered one. Their initial impression was good but it soon appeared that his side had a slow leak and would not maintain the same pressure. He went through an extended period of trying to get the manufacturer/dealer to check it without any positive results. Finally, they sent him a new hose with directions as to how to replace it himself. They wanted him to exchange the parts between the two sides and try to determine which was a defective part. He is in his upper 70's and has had multiple back surgeries so he declined and gave the bed back to them and bought something else. Too bad for Sleep Number because the couple are quite able to afford anything they want and certainly are good messengers for products where they think they have been well treated. They definitely didn't feel that way in this case.

We had considered getting one (also an adjustable one) but have changed our minds because of our friends experience with the service.

We've had a king for about six years and like it fine.

I find the sleep effect is not unlike an Aero bed inflated to 'comfort'. Aero beds are a LOT cheaper. We use Aero beds when company calls and when we travel.

Tried one and neither the wife or I liked it. We bought a king sized Tempur-pedic for about half the price and we both love it. We are both up in age and with our bed tired backs recover quite nicely.
