Jay Leno's Garage
Now this is truly amazing. Think how the application can be used in the firearm industry!

So if I had one of those in my basement, I could just drop in a ratty old Registered Magnum and presto a brand new one pops out! Oh yeah, I could sure use one of those.

That could make owning a Harley downright affordable.

One of my colleges teaches engineering/design in high school, he got one of those printers a few years ago. A couple of student designed and built; first with the plastic printer then the final product a "Folding wheel chair" the wheels kind of folded into three slices of pizza on one another kind of look--sort of, pretty good for a couple of 17 year olds. Last I heard they were in the process of patenting (I guess that's a word) and starting their own company to sell these things. Kind of restores one's faith of the youth of our nation.

Only potential downside, will it make CAD designers obsolete?

That's what I was thinking too. Heck, someone could replicate any obsolete firearm part for restorations.

That is one impressive machine.
I noticed that the developer said the scanning device was under $3000, however he didn't mention what the "printer" cost.
One thing I didn't catch was if the output measurements from the scanner could be directly input into a CRC machine or were there interim steps that had to be taken.
