Default S&W return shipping question

So I've shipped my rifle to Smith and Wesson for repair. When they get it fixed, will they call me and tell me it's coming back, or will it just arrive on my doorstep?

Or what?

First they'll send an invoice detailing the work and the charges for it. They'll ask for your OK, then they'll do the work.
I've had 2 guns repaired by Smith, neither time did they let me know they were shipped.

This is a warranty repair, so I guess it will just show up on my doorstep when it's good and ready.

I have sent 2 guns back for warranty. No notice either by mail or phone on the return. Just sent one gun back AGAIN through my FFL and they got a letter that it was received but nothing on the return.
Now I just use my local FFL as a return now so I do not have to be home.

I must say that warranty work has been done very timely.

Now I wonder if I will ever get my Walther PPK (recall) back? Going on 4 months. I really do not care as I know they have a quadrillion of them and must be a real nightmare and expense. It just sat in the safe anyway.
