What is wrong with me!?
Not long ago I had a nice quiet conversation with myself concerning gun purchase's. Now I came to the conclusion that I had quite enough S&W wheel-gun's already and should knock it off for awile. Stopped at one of my local pusher's for some .44 SPL brass the other day and just happend to look at some J frame's. Hymmm, a no lock 442, bought it. Today wilst enjoying a ride on the scoot with my bud's, we stopped by another shop, just to look ya know. Hymmm, a very nice 1905 4th target in .38 Spl, bought it. Good God man, I cant stop! My checkbook is a wreck most all the time account of this sort of thing and thank goodness I dont use credit card's. Is there any help other than death? This compulsive behavior is starting to worry me.

You and me both!
I've gotten to where I'm refusing to even trade for a new one... I just buy it... even when I'm not planning on it.

Common malady. Personally, I guess it comes from buying/collecting/trading for over 30 years and filtering it through that backdrop of watching prices, changes in design and politics and feeling like even though common sense tells you you don't need another one that it's still a good investment and something you can always get your money or more back from on down the road. It's tough, but when I've felt like I'm 'getting too far out there" with it I've been able to pull back for a while and let common sense reign.
I know sometimes life puts people in positions where they sell at a loss out of desperation, but so far I've been lucky in that regard where I haven't had to sell and have had the luxury of just 'sitting' on one I would like to sell for a while until the market turns more in my favor. And for good or bad (depending on your philosophy) it always has so far.

Hell, not just S&W and Colt revolvers. I can't seem to pass up buying ammo on Gunbroker.
Just won a box of 41 Long Colt on Gunbroker, which now makes over 1500 hundred rounds of just .41 Long Colt for me. It's madness I tell ya, but a good madness.

Just hanging out on this forum contributes to the problem. I started lurking here last fall to get information about a 442 I had just purchased. Since them I have bought 2 k22's, a model 15, a model 10, a 1905 4th change, a chiefs special and a combat masterpiece. The more I read about them the more models I want. It is an addiction, but aint it fun!

If you're trying to quit, don't come to this forum! That's like a drug addict trying to kick his habit by going to a Grateful Dead concert.
If there is a cure, I will run away from it and blissfully waste away with my addiction!

Aloha,
It could be worse. My Wife prefers that I spend My money on buying guns, cameras, boats or new car(last 2 when/If I have any money left over from buying guns).
She says this way she knows where I'm NOT at. As in bars and fooling around. This way I actually have something to show for where the money went.
A while back she Confronted me about my gun buying when she said that I had bought X number of guns since I retired in 2001 and had spent X thousandS of $ on guns. She also went on to say that don't bitch about a new boat because I had spent enough on guns to actually afford another boat.
Damn gun registration here in Hawaii and anywhere else. She went thru the stack of my gun Registration forms(in My safe, she has her own guns and gun safe) to figure out how much I had approximately spent.

Hey Bob, how's it going?
Oddly enough, earlier this year I told my wife "I think I'm going to slow down on buying Smiths unless I find something really special". Well so much for that, I immediately bought two more and neither was "special"!!! No point in fighting it, I think we are all "hopelessly hooked"
BTW - Did you ride to Johnstown? I wanted to, but I'm on call and have to be within a half hour of work, so I had to watch the guys ride off without me!

Hey Jeff, we took a break from Johnstown this year, the old been there done that thing I suppose! Work is so bothersome at times, glad I retired. Heck I even bought one of the GSG-5 carbines because it's neat, nothing there my $75.00 10/22 cant do! Oh well at least as long as I have my motorcycles and gun addiction I cannot afford a girlfreind and such! That keeps my wife happy at least. You take care now.

Let me stop you right there. Buying nice used S&W's is not a problem, but talking to yourself is (especially if you do it in public).

Bob,
For humans this is very common and quite normal behaviour. However, for Vulcans it is very illogical. Are you sure you're not suffering symptoms of impending Pon-farr?

What is wrong with you is called greed, and it is a sin. Send me that 1905 Target and I will pray for your healing and forgiveness.

Thanks for the support all, nice to know I'm not the only one! Now for some specific reply's. As for being a Vulcan, no I'm a native of this planet, I was given the handle of Vulcan Bob for rideing a Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle and I have been married too long to suffer from Pon-Far! As for talking to myself it's a old habit from running a one man shop for 33 years! It was either myself or the battery charger and the charger was a bit of a snob. And as for being a greedy sinner, guilty as charged! Am going to try to stay out of the gun shops for a bit! Remember, it's hoarding only if you get before I do!

my suggestion is try to forcably make up your mind that you won't buy another gun unless you trade for it and +cash is ok, you stay at the same # of guns, your spending less money and you still have a cool gun either way, heck I have 2 handguns and if I weren't broke I would go to my 'pusher' and be happily broke. I really want a 442.......

Yeah, after a long sickness out of control, I sold the half dozen guns I had. I am still sick but it has been under control since last fall. Suffice to say it is a brain thing. I thought that I would just get one .22, a .357 and a .44 mag. Well a 17, 19, 27, 29... You get the idea. Thank god I am a confirmed wheelman and I don't like those old small .38 special S&W's (J frames etc.). Uh, oh I just started thinking about a .45 LC!

I got along just fine with 2 S&W revolvers for over 40 years. Then I found this durned forum, now I'm not sure how many I have.
If people here din't put up all of those pictures of beeutifull guns, I could get along fine.
BTW, don't quit postin' them pictures.
