Default Anyone know this stamp?

trying to find out if anyone has ever seen this stamp on somthing before, holster came with a FN1910 I picked up at a recent auction. The pistol is not marked in any way beyond the standard Belgain marks. Royal Military Police?? Thanks for any ideas or leads anyone can give.

Hi Freightdog,
If I'm not mistaken it is an old brand of holster "RMP" from around the time of your gun.
I am wrong quite often maybe someone else will back me up on this one.
Good luck
Mike

Thanks, really have no idea at all and that could be it, odd though as the stamp is on there twice and sorta looks like an after thought as it is centered on the one I show in the pic but is about 3/4 of a stamp on the edge of the holster too.

I did a couple of google searches and found some other holsters with the same marking. The website didn't say what it meant. Check this out "http://www.oregontrailcrossing.com/Cowboy_gear.html"

I'll be darned, I have the same mark/stamp on a flap holster that came with a Colt Police Positive Special circa 1920's, was told the gun was from the Mounties, but cant be sure

Default Rmp

Howdy,
I had a little time to kill and found this. I did not copy the picture.
"A rmp brand holster for the colt govrenment model. 45 acp automatic service pistol, as sold by sporting goods & hardware stores in the early part of the 20th century. Shows signs of use, surface cracks, stitching is all present, leather is stiff & sound, nickel riveted belt loop stamped ab 456, rmp logo stamped twice-a very fine example of a popular type & brand of holster as sold in the early 1900's. This is from my personal collection-i've owned it for many years.
Please ask any questions you'd like. Attention ebay monitors the non-gun shonw to illustrate the fit of this holster is a solid block of gray hard rubber, painted black-it has no moving parts, is made expressly for this purpose & it abides by all ebay rules & regulations. I have used it numerous times for this express purpose & it has never been deemed unacceptable. "

I found a couple of more that said more or less the same thing except different styles of holsters, single action flap etc.
asking prices were 80-100 dollars for nice ones.
Hope this helps.
Mike

I think Landpimp has it about right.

My guess is that the marking stands for Royal Mounted Police.

Default Rcmp

Howdy Titan,
I think there would be a "C" in it if was Canadian. RCMP is how most of the stuff I have seen for them is stamped.
And again, I am often wrong. I.E. 35 years ago I said people will never pump their own gasoline and not to long ago when I declared "Don't worry, Americans are not about to elect an angry white woman or a black man with a middle name of Hussein to be president".
Man, when I miss em' I really miss em' big!
Thanks
Mike

not sure.....I also would have thought it was RCMP not CMP

whats odd about my holster and Colt is, both the gun and holster are # to each other, on the flat under the clyinder is a #(not factory) same is on the holster(not factory)

cant see any other reason they were # to each other unless a police type use

I was just tossing that holster in a storage box last night, will pull it out and take some pics today

If you really want to know - Call Carla Edwards, the Owner of "Oregon Trail Crossing". (See loubob608's post, above). Check her website for contact numbers & more info.

She is very knowledgeable on historical leather goods and maker's stamps. She also has some great pieces for sale, and will appraise & broker sell quality historical items. Poke around her website some - There's some interesting stuff there.

Tell her Mitch from Montana said Hi.

PS: I think an item from the Mounties would be stamped RCMP.

ah, I had a pic, not a close up but both the gun and holster.

can see the CMP mark on the flap if you look close

the Colt shows almost no wear/use(besides muzzle), the holster does show wear

thanks all.... guess it was not to bad a question. More to research I fear but will be something new to work on and sometimes that is as much fun as shooting what goes in the holster.

Now that I read some other posts closer, my holster also has a nonfactory number stamped on the back 32A and the first two numbers in the serial number of the pistol is 32. Could it mean something? Although not as clear it also has the stamping around the edge like the one Loubob308 found. I am guessing it will be something.... the hunt continues
