Default a little help

I have one of my father’s S&W 14-5. I have yet to see one on the internet. Does anyone have any information on a model 14-5 with an 8 3/4" barrel, nickel with wooden contour grips? Is it rare? It has never been fired. I estimate value (not that I would sell it) at $850?

Welcome to the forum. I just recently loaned my Blue book, and Standard Catalog of firearms to a friend, so I have no reference to check for you. Perhaps you would get more responses by posting this question in one of the revolver sections.

Very nice gun BTW.

Those are S&W factory combat grips. Nice grips, but I'm thinking not original to the gun.

Value depends a lot on having "the complete package"...original box, tool kit, paperwork, etc., as well as original grips, etc.

I'm thinking that gun would have come with target grips.

Unfortunately, it seems that, for most models, the shorter barrel lengths bring a premium.

I'm thinking you'd have a hard time getting $850 for that gun, but maybe to the right person, you never know....

I had one and sold it earlier this year. I never lettered it but it came to me with a red insert patrige sight, and target grips. I suspect it was an over run from the 12 revolvers series. FWIW i advertised it at 650 and got 600 for it.

Default Thank you very much

I have the box and papers. I have the newest BB of gun values, but the nickel and 8 3/4' barrel is hard to place. The grips are original. I guarantee this gun is strait from the factory; my Dad would have never changed out the grips.

Sorry, I'm not an expert on this model. I'll take your word that the grips are original.

I think you'd get more responses to this if a moderator would move this thread to the appropriate revolver section...or you could just re-post it there.

Beautiful gun, I'm just more partial to shorter barrel Smiths.

Having the box and papers is definitely a plus! Hopefully, you have the cleaning tools and sight adjustment tool (screwdriver) too.

I'm a little confused on your 14-5. I thought when the M14 was re-introduced in 1991 (M14-5) it was with the full lug barrel which yours doesn't have.
