Outlaw Josey Wales - The Book
Just wanted to tell fans of Clint's movie "The Outlaw Josey Wales" that there is a book version. It's called "Josey Wales: Two Westerns: Gone To Texas/The Vengeance Trail of Josey Wales". "Gone To Texas" is the movie with a few variances and "The Vengeance Trail of Josey Wales" is another tail involving Josey. They are written by Forrest Carter.
I've read both of them and they are very entertaining. Highly recommended reading of the Western genre.
Amazon link here.
The book contains both novels.
Just wanted to post this for interested readers.

I have read them both and both are quite good, although Gone To Texas was better IMO. Made me more critical of the movie though, LOL.
Been many years since I read them, and I have a BDay coming up soon...I'll share that link with the wife. Thanx for reminding me of these.

Thanks Barry. I never knew there was a book version. I love westerns... TV, big screen, and books. Eastwood is one of my favorites. Always enjoyed Chief Dan George too.

Folks might also enjoy Carter's The Education of Little Tree.

That's one of the variances referred to in my OP. He's not quite as old in the book...

Something of a mini storm surrounded Eastwood after making the movie "Josie Wales."
The film followed the beginning of his Dirty Harry "series" which initially drew reactions that he, or Dirty Harry, was something of a fascist.
Forrest Carter, real name Asa Carter, was a major figure against integration and he headed a klavern of the KKK. Some tried to stick
Eastwood with some of Carter's reputation.
Reportedly Carter's "Little Tree" was initially passed off as non-fiction but then proven otherwise.
Still "Josey Wales" along with "Unforgiven" are Eastwood's best Westerns in a very, very wonderful movie career.

Clint's "Josey'' was great, don't know about, "The Return of Josey Wales", with Michael Parks in the title role. And Carter was definitely on the side of segregation, writing some of George Wallace's most quoted remarks. Was Carter not killed in a drunken brawl by his own son?
