Sell as a collection or piece by piece?
I'm considering selling off a substantial part of my gun collection. I *think* I'd rather be in the camp of "beware the man with one gun, he probably knows how to use it" vs. the "which one of a dozen revovlers will I shoot today?".
So, I'd keep 2 pistols (a .22 and a .45) and 2 revolvers (K frame .357 and 642) and sell the rest.
Do you think selling as a collection has any merit? Nothing I have is particularly noteworthy or collectible, the "collection" would be more of a convenience to me as far as arranging the deal.
I'd be selling:
- perfect Model 17
- near perfect Model 28
- Model 10
- Model 14
- 642
- SP101 2.25"
-SP101 3"
- 686 6"
- GP100 4"
Long guns are in the same situation, keep 2 or 3, unload ~12.

I think you would be better off selling it in pieces. Anyone who would buy the "collection" would probably be doing it for resale and would probably try to lowball you so they can make a little profit.
Selling invidually will allow the person who wants that one gun, and has the money for it to be able to add it to their "collection"

Don’t get Me wrong. It depends on how old and how collectleble they are.
Those are modern revolvers which are new available today.
According to me, you can best sell them apart.

I'd post them here and try to sell them pc x pc. You would most likely get a better return on your investment than selling as a collection. Who know's, if you list them here someone may make an offer for several of them to reduce shipping/transfer fees. Listing them here is also cheaper than listing on GB, AA or GA, no final valuation fees.

Pros & Cons either way.
Yes, there are advantages and disadvantages to each.
If you sell them as a collection, it is likely that you will lose around 25%+ of what you could make by selling them individually. However, this can also be a plus in the convenience department because you won't be the one making arrangements for shipping, paperwork, emails, phone calls, making certain payments are received and clear the bank, etc.
If you do sell them individually, you will be the one doing all the leg and footwork, either by taking pictures and posting them in the newspaper, gun club newsletter, this forum, gunbroker, word of mouth, walking around the gunshow, etc. Then you have to wait until they sell, perhaps pay the site you sold them on for their cut, and wait for the checks and such to clear the bank beside having to mail them at your closest UPS regional center.
What is worth more to you? I recommend patience whatever you do- don't be brash and sell them too cheap, but don't be greedy either.

All good answers. My .02 would be one at a time individually as opposed to all at once individually. Spread out the time and travel involved in transfers and shipping and banking the payments.

I would definitely sell them individually. You will have a better chance because most people are only looking for one gun. As a previous poster said, If you find someone to buy them all, most likely he will lowball the price.
I am like you. I used to have 10 9mm semi auto handguns, 4 or 5 45 ACP handguns and 4 or 5 357/38 revolvers. Truly more than I need. I just wanted them.
I have since started to sell all except 2- 9mm's, 2- 45's and 2- 357's.

If you want to get the most buck for the bang, definitely one at a time.

This is good advice, thanks all.
Thankfully, I don't need to sell to pay the mortgage or buy a kidney, so I'll sit on it for a while and, if I sell, sell piece by piece.

I think most people.. when presented with the option to buy something like that as a collection.. do the math and figure out if they're getting a deal or not. If they would end up paying for the entire collection what they would pay if they bought them all individually then it's no deal for them. It's likely you'd have to lower your price for the collection for someone to be interested... and in doing so lose out on a good amount of cash.
Sell them individually.

Individually usually will get the most per item HOWEVER you may sit on some items for a long time AND there may be items that just won't sell until you put the price down to give away.
Whereas, if someone buys the entire collection, they all go at once and you don't have to sit for a year waiting for someone who wants a good deal on that particular gun in that particular caliber. You may not get as much for the top dollar stuff but you may sell some of the others that otherwise you may sit on for a long time.

Sell them slowly and one at the time. That gives you time to reconsider the whole idea of selling them at all!

Hi:
If you don't need the money to survive, then DON'T SELL!
You will regret selling in the future.
Clean and store away the ones you want to sell and in a year take them out and consider selling again.
