Default Who elected this guy?

I don't think this was posted as joke, so the only answer is incredible stupidity or ignorance.

The following letter was in the "Letters to the Editor" section of the Jersey Journal (local paper in Jersey City, NJ):

"Don't loosen gun controls
by Juan M. Perez Sheriff of Hudson County Jersey City
Tuesday September 01, 2009, 12:01 AM

As your sheriff of Hudson County, and as a law enforcement officer for many years, I must strongly oppose the recent overtures by some federal legislators to permit individuals to carry concealed weapons over state lines and throughout the country.

It is most certain that handguns and other types of weapons only belong in the possession of law enforcement and military personnel. We lost a dedicated, professional and caring Jersey City officer in the person of Detective Marc DiNardo, slain by career criminals in possession of an automatic type of shotgun which was bought to our city from another part of the country. Certainly, these types of weapons should be prohibited from being manufactured, imported, or sold in the United States of America.

Further, we oppose proposed federal bills HR 4900, HR 2296 and S 941, as these laws would certainly undermine federal agents and local law enforcement in their fight against illegal guns. These bills would create an unnecessarily high evidentiary standard in licensing procedures, allowing the gun dealer to use "ignorance of the law" as an excuse in the breaking of the law, allow gun dealers to sell guns 60 days after the ATF revokes a license, block the ATF from updating record keeping, would not require federally licensed gun dealers to report multiple handgun sales to state or local law enforcement, and would slant license revocation procedures in favor of law breaking gun dealers.

We have witnessed, throughout the country and in our own Jersey City, fatal shootings of police officers and civilians utilizing illegal guns and guns that harm humanity. The above bills and the proposal to permit guns to be carried in a concealed manner would only add to the problems of law enforcement and protect dealers who break the law. Our law enforcement officers and the general public deserve protection in every area from gun violence and other crimes."

The sad part of this is that Sheriff Perez is trying to get mileage out of the murder of a Jersey City Police Officer who was shot trying to effect an entry into an apartment to apprehend a felon wanted for armed robbery and an earlier assault on detectives in a stakeout. The weapon used against the officer was Mossberg 12 gauge pump.

It must have been the secret "Mossberg automatic type pump". I hope the house and senate bills address this evil weapon.

BTW whatever happened to the career criminals that did this?

It sounds like the people in Hudson County elected him. You have to feel for the any leo trying to protect his guys and the public at the same time. His point the same as the Secret Service, when people show up at rallies wearing guns it diverts their attention away from everyone else which makes their job more difficult.

Chicago I know about, is this what we should expect of Jersey City?
Wait a minute; I thought most of the NJ politicians had been arrested.

This is the SECOND reason I moved from NJ. I moved from NJ almost 19 years ago. Idiots in charge and thinking that they know what is best for me although they have NEVER walked a mile in my shoes. All I can tell them is go down to the shore (no, they don't have beaches in nj, only shores), get a 5 gallon bucket full of sand and a funnel, start pounding.

Typical no one needs a gun -----(except me) attitude.
I wonder if Policimo "we don neeed no stinking badges!" Juan Perez
knows that it is the ones that go through all the checks to get a permit are the ones that he doesn't have to worry about?
He should check his homeys for the illegal gun running.

Jersey City is where Frank "I am the Law in Jersey City" Hague held sway for many years, and probably still does to a certain extent-he was
a master practitioner at getting out the Graveyard Vote. Unfortunately it's an urban area with urban values and attitudes. This individual is a
good example of what I call an anti-gun elitist-the old "police and military
only" attitude.

I bet Bloomberg made a sizable donation to Perez's campaign.

RideWV - the career came to an abrupt halt, the shooter was killed on the scene w/ his female accomplice.

Truckemup - Mayor Jerry Healy is a crony of Bloomburg and belongs to his "Mayors Against Guns" initiative. He also pushed that 'one gun a month' law that the NJ Legislature just passed. He runs the Hudson County "Democratic" Organization and handpicked Perez to run for sheriff.

This guy is a moderate compared to one of my cousins. She wants all firearms, modern and antique, in the hands of the people to be turned in for destruction. Then, all firearms in possession of law enforcement are to be destroyed. Finally, the military gets to keep their firearms, but no replacement parts and no new firearms. When the military's firearms eventually all wear out, then there will be peace in the world. I'm not joking, she really believes this! And yes, I know she is nuts, but I love her anyhow. She is part of my family. Oh, one more thing; she lives in New York City and thinks Bloomburg is great.

I have said it before and I'll say it again. Anti-gun people belong to a weird cult religion, and guns are the embodiment of the ultimate evil in their cult religion.
