Bill, are guns like this purchased by the engravers, and sold, or, did S&W hire engravers from time to time to fill orders or to commemorate an event?

S&W had full time engravers on staff that did many of the guns you see today. S&W would also send guns to engravers if they wanted a special job done. This particular 44 Magnum was thought to have been engraved by Sigfried Rentzschke, but I have since learned S&W sent it to Germany for engraving and inlay as they wanted a very special gun.
