Visually the barrel should be good to go. If I had a smith to do the work, I would check for sure.
Part of the reason I asked is because way back when S&W quit pinning their barrels, I vaguely remember a discussion about both Smith and Colt relying on torquing and “crushing” the threads to...
A 65-? into an original 3” S&W takeoff barrel.
Still looking for a host gun, but a few times a year I hear of one that Bubba hacksawed and made into a 3” so I am hoping a reasonably priced donor gun is nearby.
Interestingly, I found a LNIB LadySmith that was priced too low. Unfortunately...
I haven’t opened my S&W OEM moon clips, but a buddy said they are probably TK. Does anyone know?
BTW, I just received a bunch of the Ranch clips, and they were still producing them.
You could start by polishing the barrel in place. Then, if that work doesn’t meet your needs, you could progress on to polishing with the barrel off.

I’m trying to figure out the difference between a 686 plus model# 13920 and model# 164194.
The 164194 is currently on the S&W website, but the 13920 isn’t there.
I did a search, but couldn’t decide what the answer is.
Can the two-piece barrels be swapped out on K-frame or J-frame revolvers?
I talked to a lady at S&W who couldn’t definitively say yes, so she couldn’t give a price.
I was just thinking about a cracked S&W alloy frame.
Many years ago, a shooting buddy purchased a NIB model-12 with a 2” barrel. First time out, he decided to try a cylinder of +P ammo. Two shots resulted in one big crack.
Now days, I have +P rated Airweights and never hesitate shooting +P...
