Just did a search and yep, it is for sure a Camellia. I will say that they are certainly hardy. I have done nothing for this plant but it thrives in spite of me.

Thanks for the help. I'm sure it was planted here on purpose. I doubt they grow here naturally (although really, what do I know). I'm really curious though why so many flowers this year. Sure is easy to take care of though.

I've been living here for 26 years. In all that time this bush never produced more than about 4 or maybe 5 flowers in a season. I don't know if this is indicative of anything but suddenly this year it must have at least 50 flowers. Just wondering what this thing is.
