    Vintage 1956 Pre-24 how rare is a 5" barrel ?

Pretty rare if it is legit. Please post some pictures, especially of the barrel roll marks and the front of the barrel. You'll probably need a letter to confirm the original configuration. Let's see condition and validation of originality before we get too far in to the valuation discussion.

Does your revolver have a story to tell?

Good story, those stolen ones don't usually make their way home. This one wasn't stolen but has a story too. I've told the long version here years ago so won't cover it all again. Suffice it to say it was my first Registered Magnum and I was a little concerned about the non-professional...

Holy Molly, a 28-2 With Cokes

It happens sometimes. I bought a 1950 44 Target with cokes this week too, although the gun is a little scratched up. I don't think I got "the deal of the century" though. Congrats on a nice 28-2 and a great set of "cokes."

    Registered magnum

That's a nice RM, you were fortunate to find it. We love to hear the stories as to where they're found and how you were able to beat out all the other folks who wanted it. Thanks for sharing the pictures too. Getting the letter, especially for an RM, is always a good idea. Even if it only...

Vacuum Sealing Ammo: Yae or Nae?

I occasionally find a box of reloads I put together back in the '70s. They've been tucked in to whatever box was available and been stored in air conditioning sometimes but more likely in the hot Texas garage for decades but they all work when needed. I would lose no sleep worrying about...

    Anybody Here Win Something at...

Wasn't me, although that sounds like a pretty good price. What would the OTD total have been, around $2k? I missed a couple in the last RIA auction by one increment too, which would have been enough to win on one, maybe both.

    Fall is Coming

Yes, and the aspens here in the southern Rockies are starting to get a tinge of yellow too. It was 32 degrees here a couple mornings ago.

    S&W Outdoorsman

Nice gun, I'd leave it alone especially since the grips are numbered to the gun. If I were buying it that would mean a lot more to me than having mismatched (meaning nicer than the gun) grips that don't number to it no matter how much better looking they might be.

    A Sock Drawer 2nd Model HE 44

Perhaps, sometimes it ends differently though. Last year I was bidding on an engraved gun and was beaten at the end. But, the buyer reneged and didn't take it supposedly because he wasn't satisfied with the clarity of the description. I offered the seller the equivalent of the winning bid and...

    A Sock Drawer 2nd Model HE 44

Many of the 2nd Model 44s I see show lots of character along with signs of being carried and some carried and used a lot. A few months ago I bought this one which doesn't appear to have traveled very many miles in a holster. I had decided to make one max bid on it and not to chase it beyond...

    OK, Who Got the 4" K32 ?

I know who got that one, not me, but one of us. Perhaps he'll post it in the not too distant future.

    First year pre 29

Ok, if we're going to show other first year 4 inch 44 Magnums I'll show this one too and tell the story. Probably told it here before but years ago. I stop by a small LGS which I've visited before and have rarely seen anything S&W and don't see any on the shelves this time either. The owner...

Spyderco knives - did a bit of research this morning and learned quite a bit!

I like Spyderco too and have several. However, unless buying from a reputable dealer check carefully for counterfeits. Some of the counterfeit ones are easy to spot, Colorado stamp variations for example, others not so easy to identify. I have one of the counterfeit ones and it is actually a...

MORE Tales from the East Texas Outback

Not an LEO story but I went to college with a guy who had an interesting scar on his stomach. Seems, in the tradition of our Yankee ancestors, when they were hungry he was sometimes sent out to bring back some venison regardless of whether the season was open or not. He used a 22LR because it...
