    Cougar hunting caliber conundrum

Hey, My guide recommended a 270 or similar. I’ve talked to a few people who say that’s way over kill for a cat. The guide also said I could use his 30-30. So he figures 30-30 is plenty. I do have a 686 no dash and a 657 no dash that I could take but from what you guys are saying, the 280 is...

    Cougar hunting caliber conundrum

Hey, I am going on a cougar hunt with dogs in 2022 in northern Idaho. Guide says shot distances should be between 10-30 yards as cougars will be treed. Here’s my conundrum... I have two rifle choices to come along with me... one is my kimber Montana in 280ai... leupold 4.5-12x40 on it. I’ve...

Gold dot 135+p short barrel out of model 67

Hey all, What are your thought about shooting the gold dot 135+p short barrel out of a 4” model 67? Would the velocity bump increase chances of expanding? Over expand? Under penetrate? Anyone have velocity numbers from 4” guns? Thinking of stoking my downstairs home defense model 67 with it...

    Camp/hiking pistol/ammo suggestions

Hey, I have quite a decision on my hands... but a good one! I have a great leather chest holster (Paradise valley leather) that makes toting around a L or N Frame easy and convenient. I also have a 686 no dash, 629-1 both with 4" barrels and a 657 no dash with a 6" barrel. I live in Oregon...

    Matched Set

Hey, I just caved on a 629-3 to match my 657nodash. I took them both out today and did some shooting... now I have the desire to turn my 15-4 into a 67 and have a matching set: 617, 67, 686, 657, 629.

If you bought a new S&W recently and love it... tell us!

I have a 686-6, 617-6, and a 29-10. The 686 is the tightest revolver I've ever owned, and the smoothest. It has the Lock Hole, the MIM parts, and all, but it is smooth and a fine shooter. The 617 is almost as smooth but with a heavier pull. Still the best 22 revolver out there. The 29 was...

    Model 29 Classics Review

I bought one (29-10) in January... Where to begin... The Good: The Blue is flawless! The fit of the cylinder/action is tight and crisp. The Bad: The factory grips are awful, thin, and do nothing to absorb recoil. I replaced mine with aftermarket target grips which tame the recoil from full...

    .38 Defense Ammo

I have two different ammo selections based on the gun. For my home defense gun, I have a 15-4 loaded with the Buffalo Bore 158 LSWCHP +p load. From a 4" barrel they are right at 1100fps with my model 15. For a J frame I carry the 135+p Gold Dots that I found in a 50rd box at a local gun...

    BIG N frame grips

Hey, I have bought grips from that guy in FL before for my model 657. They fit really well, and have no problems. I would buy them again at that price. --38

    BIG N frame grips

I only saw pairs that were 150+ bucks. I checked on Fleabay and saw a set of SW factory target grips for 59 bucks and grabbed them. Stamped 1991. They're on the way! it should tame the factory grips on my 29-10 with full house loads...

    BIG N frame grips

My N frame is a new one. 29-10. Square butt, and I believe old square butt grips will fit it. Correct me if I'm wrong.

    BIG N frame grips

Hey, So I have a N frame smith model 29, and I wanted to get some big target grips for it... the factory grips are really small and thin, and I was looking for something like the BIG hand filling target grips. Most of the grips I see are 150+ bucks. Are there any that are fat target grips...

S&W "Classic" revolvers and canted barrels?

I got my 29-10 back from the mothership today. They re clocked the barrel, replaced the rear sight, and the trigger. MUCH better. Now to see if it still shoots 16" to the left... I suspect it will be fixed. I have another "new" smith with the key lock... a 686-6 (IIRC) and it is probably...

S&W "Classic" revolvers and canted barrels?

I just sent my 29-10 back because the barrel was canted... it shot 16" to the left, and the rear sight was so far adjusted over it couldn't compensate for the barrel. The gap between the ejector rod shroud and the frame was so large two playing cards could slide into it. Also, the trigger had...

    29-10 problem

Hey all, I bought a 29-10 on Jan 3, brand new. I took it out today and shot it off a rest with 2 magnum loads and a 44 special load and found that the gun shoots 16" to the left. It grouped pretty well 1.5" and elevation was right on with a quick dial in... I tried to fix the shooting left...
