I found one of my "Grail Guns"!

Well, I picked up my new M27. Please excuse my lousy photo skills. The "specks" that appear on the finish in the photos is lint. As you can see, the stocks are ill fitting, and sanded. I guess they're from an L frame and modified to fit an N? I gotta get a set of N frame Targets. Anyway...

I found one of my "Grail Guns"!

Great pics, guys! Keep em coming. To give me some inspiration until I can get a chance to pick mine up. By the way, anyone know what are the "proper" stocks for the 5" w/ a serial # of n603xxx? The ones that come with mine are franken-stocks that are cut up, ill fitting and sanded down...

I found one of my "Grail Guns"!

Thanks guys. Don't have the gun yet. When I pick it up, I'll try to get pics. I have to say, the top strap "checkering" on the 27s is REALLY cool! I'm starting to think that once I pick the gun up, I'll be on the constant look out for number 2!

I found one of my "Grail Guns"!

I am sooo pumped. I FINALLY found one! A 27-2 with a 5" barrel. Until now, I had to make due with my 28s. It is a blued 5" gun with probably 98%+ blue. It has the ususal slight cylinder drag mark. No flame cutting and the timing is perfect. Lock up and end shake are just fine. In...

    M27 price check.

I found a blue 27 wth a 6" barrel. Serial # N 622xxx. Great condition except a slight cylinder turn line and a little holster wear on one side of the muzzle. Original stocks. Otherwise, perfect. Good mechanicals/timing etc. Price is $675.00. I think that's a bit high. What do you...

    Unburned powder in 4756 loads

I just got back from the range having loaded up some 38 spl & 357 mag rounds for the first time with IMR 4756. In both calibers, I had a LOT of unburned powder. I mean tons. Having never used 4756 before I'm not sure if this is normal. Now, the loads I used were not max, but not super light...

Another flame cutting question, but in 38 spl.

I know this subject has been beat to death on this forum. But I'll add a twist. I note that most agree that flame cutting is accelerated if not wholly caused by slow ball powders like 296/110 and short, light (125 gr) bullets in the 357 magnum. Well, how about the 38 special? Anyone notice...

Educate me on the post 29-2

Can anyone give me a brief "primer" (no pun intended) on the changes to the 29-3 onward? What I'm interested in is the changes S&W made to add to the strength and durability with full house mag loads. I know at some point there was an "Endurance package" added etc., but don't know when it was...

CCI Blazer Brass 158 gr sjhp 357 magnum

Anybody use this ammo? I'm looking for a good general purpose 357 load to be carried in my 4" M28 during hikes etc. I live in PA so potential targets both 4 and 2 legged wouldn't be too big. I can't find any decent self defense ammo in my area. All that's around is cheap imported target...

    Safe Nickel polish?

Is FLITZ liquid polish safe for my nickel plated M19? Will it scratch it? I want to make sure whatever I use won't make the nickel flake or stain. I know not to use Hoppes to clean it. Should I generally stay away from anything that has ammonia in it? Thanks guys.

M 25 price check please (and other questions)

Ok. I located a M25 in 45acp. Non pinned 6" barrel, patridge fron sight, blue, in about 98% shape (finish) except it has rubber Pachs on it. Original grips not included. Mechanically fine. Minor but visible "drag line" on the cylinder. Serial # range N900xxx. Price $575. Here's the...

    Vintage Ammo-save or shoot?

I like to keep old boxes of ammo on display in my reloading room. It's kinda cool to have a gun from say 1965 and a box of ammo of the same vintage. I vote...keep it! Now you'll have to find a S&W of the same vintage to go with it! Hows that for an excuse to get another gun?

    IMR 4759 for 357 mag?

Anyone use IMR 4759 with lead bullet 158 grain 357 mag loads? I use 4759 in cast lead loads for my 30-06 & 45-70. I'm a bit leary of using it in such a small case like the 357. I ask because its listed for use in Lyman's Cast Bullet guide 3rd edition. Wouldn't 4759 be WAAAY too slow...
