Chicago PD marked Hand Ejector - Badge 455

I grew up in Chicago and paid too much for the CPD marked Hand ejector at today's gun show in Tucson. I'll post some pics with Photobucket. Date of Birth anyone? Anyone from Chicago know who owned badge 455 back in the 30's? And does anyone have any idea what the faded stamp to the right of...

    Floating Hand

Night Owl, Does that mean that the replacement hand will fit into the bushing or that you need to remove the bushing? The floating hand times perfectly. My only comnplaint is the stacking at the end of the DA trigger pull. So, I can just measure the hand and order one from S&W?

    Floating Hand

Replacing a floating hand I just picked up a 25-3 Model of 1989 that has the floating hand. This confused me at first since I’d never seen one before and it looked like a bad repair from kitchen table gun smith -- but it is exactly like snw19_357’s pictures. The lock-up is great but the...

    NY-1 Model 64 question

Thanks everyone, The serial number and vapor finish makes it clear that this was a dash 5 gun (I have a dash 6 and it has a frame mounted FP). But I have trouble seeing the possibility that the - 5 was just off the crane. One's I've seen with various dashes always had the ‘Mod.’ above the...

    NY-1 Model 64 question

Yep, Great info so I hope you can help me decipher mine. As to fakes, I doubt it. This was in the big lot of NY-1’s at J&G in Prescott AZ -- Smith & Wesson Model 64 NY1 38spl, 4inch, Vapor hone finish, very good condition

    NY-1 Model 64 question

Is this right. I recently picked up a Model 64 NY-1. Inside the crane it is stamped “Mod. 64” – no dash. It has a hammer mounted firing pin and the barrel is not pinned. The serial number is BHJ69xx. I thought all the NY-1 64’s were dash 4 or 5?

    32-20 Hand Ejector

Thanks for the great information. I always thought all nickel plating was done over copper. The lettering is all very sharp and the finish looks factory. I assume that a letter is the only way to know for sure.

    32-20 Hand Ejector

I understand that some of these were not heat treated. This one is serial # 896xx. The nickel is freckled (not flaking or pitted but it looks like the copper is showing through in places). The stocks are close to perfect as is the bore. Can anyone give me a DOB and an idea if this one would...

DOB on a pair of 14-3's

I recently acquired another 14-3 6" to go with my other recent 14-3 6" S/A. The Single Action is serial number 8K855xx and the other is K8538xx. Anyone have any idea how many of Single Action only 14's were made or what years they were made?

    Model 14-3 SA

I have this pristine Model 14-3 that is Single Action Only. Serial number 8K855xx. I suspect that the 8 before the K in the serial number is a factory designation for the Single Action Only feature. I'm also guessing the SA inked on the box is the same. The pictures arn't great but should...

Looking for information on the .22 model 617 10 round 6"

The 617 10 shooter is a great little gun. I even shot mine in a USPSA practice match this past Sunday thanks to a set of DS-10-Speed loaders -- DS-10-SPEED

    Smith 646 Problem

They will work fine. I too gave up in the Rimz but in addition, I suggest that if you reload you make a point of setting the bullets deep and crimping hard. The recoil of the .40 can make loosely crimped rounds pull forward (being an auto round, the bullet has no cannelure and the dies use a...

    Today's gun show find - a S&W 646!

I have to correct myself. There were actually two slightly different 646's released. The first was a limited run Performance Center 646 with a slab sided barrel - which WC145's definately is not. Those were reported to have some problems the specifics of which I can't recall. The second run...
