Need help. Big problem with my 610-3

I just thought I would update this thread with the outcome. I sent the 610 back and promptly received it back in almost exactly 3 weeks. I sent back a very detailed report of what was going on with the pistol, and how I thought it needed to be fixed. It came back with a note saying that the...

    .327 Federal Magnum options?

I wonder if S&W could fit 10 cartridges into a N frame à la 627? That would peak my interest.

Need help. Big problem with my 610-3

Thanks guys. I forgot to mention that the tight chamber was also the one to cause the ruptured case. But, I suppose it doesn't matter. You all confirmed what I was thinking, it's escaped the QC at S&W. I just hope S&W will fix the pistol to be shoot-able as I paid a fair amount of money for it...

Need help. Big problem with my 610-3

Hey guys. I have a big problem with my new old stock 610-3. My first shots revealed something interesting. My load was as follows: Case: New Starline Bullet: Hornady 200gr XTP Powder: Bluedot Charge: 9.3 OAL: 1.260" I was using rimz moonclips. After firing I couldn't eject the spent cases...

Which compensator for semi-jacketed ammunition in S&W 500?

Why not just use the lead comp for everything? I've shot jacketed from my lead comp with no ill effects thus far. However, this could be a bad idea so I wouldn't recommend it. :)

    WTB 610 - 5" - 6.5" BBL

I'm looking for a like new, or clean 610. I don't need one of the early high dollar examples. If it has the safety lock, thats ok. I just want a nice shooter with a 5" through 6.5" full underlug barrel. I know these went for about $750 new a couple years ago. Show me what you have and we can...

    500 S&W 400gr hard cast load

I'm not opposed to shooting the 400gr hard casts at a higher velocity than 1250fps, but I don't want to get leading. I've read that anything above 1250fps without a gas check is a no-no. 4895 wont be a problem since my garand 30-06 loads use the same powder. Here is a picture of the bullet:

    500 S&W 400gr hard cast load

Hi guys. I've been reloading my .44 Mag using the 240gr lead "Keith" bullets from Missouri Bullets. I've been using 20.5gr of 2400 which should put me around 1250fps. This load leaves minimal leading, and is accurate enough for me. I'm starting to load for my newly acquired .500 and would like...

    Swapping Cylinders

Please excuse me if this is a common question, but I'm new to Smith's and I couldn't find anything on a search. Would it be possible to put in an 8 shot cylinder into one of the older 6 shot 627's? Is this just a matter of putting the new cylinder into the pistol, and checking for...

500 S&W factory squib load almost got me!

The ammo in question was still factory sealed in a clear bag, so it's unlikely that someone's handloads slipped into it, or that moisture has leached into it. I can't explain it any other way then it's just bad ammo, plain and simple. That said, I don't want to publicly bash the ammo company...

500 S&W factory squib load almost got me!

Yesterday I became the proud new owner of a slightly used .500 S&W Magnum. I've been dreaming about owning one of these for quite some time, and yesterday was the day. I picked it up for what I think was a fair price. In addition to the gun it came with 60 rounds of factory ammo (20 round lots...
