This has a glass smooth action. Not just the trigger but the hammer pull as well. I thought it must have been worked on but all the really old time S&W guys I've talked to said that it was normal for this era S&W to have such nice actions. I've had old S&Ws of this time before...
I got a better pic up with a set of Jerry Miculik grips. I've shot it a few times and I really like this gun. The 5" pencil barrel is such a nice balance between length and weight. Really suits the N-frame well.
One of the reasons I like this gun is because of the flaws. The reblue hurts the value enough to make it affordable but the gun is mechanically sound and a good shooter. I suppose a reblue can be a big problem to some people but as I'm a shooter first and not a collector, the reblue actually is...
I'm pretty sure my gun is all matching numbers. The frame, barrel and cylinder all match and there is a different number on the inside of the frame that matches the crane. As there are two numbers stamped in the frame in different spots, I'm sure they are just other numbers S&W used to mark...
That's pretty cool. It looks like everyone of these guns must have quite a story to tell. Mine is 300 or so from the first one. Pretty early so I reckon it was in one of the early batches shipped to Wolf and Klar in Texas.
What's so cool about these are Elmer Keith was shooting them and...
Do you think my gun was originally nickel plated? Again sorry for the lack of pics. I'm trying to figure out how to post them but the new Apple update has set me back to square one. I can't resize my pics to fit them in the post. I might be able to link to them.
I am certain it was refinished because the S&W logo is blurry and under the grip there is a lack of finish on the frame. Also inside the frame near the yoke is lacking blueing. The finish just looks too new as well. If you saw it, you would know instantly it was refinished. Looks pretty but it...
Also, I know putting a value on it will be difficult but what is a low end value considering the flaws as stated? My buddy thought I was crazy for buying it but I think I did fine considering I can't remember ever seeing one for sale and there was just something about it that I simply liked...
Sorry but I'm not having any luck posting pics because I don't know how to resize them on my IPad.
What I bought was a little out of my wheelhouse. I'm normally a .38 spl or .357 guy and mostly buy K-frames with the occasional j-frame L-frame or less often a N-frame model 28 or 27. That's what...
I would put the model 27 on par with any Colt Python I have handled. The very first handgun I ever shot was my dads 27 with 8 3/8" bbl. I was 11 I think.
I have a 6" blued 27-2. I think 6" in an N-frame is perfect. Just like 4" in a K-frame just seems to be best size and balance.
Very nice! Thanks for the quick response. I wasn't intending to buy a gun today. Just stopped by my local gunshop and saw it in the case for a great price. I thought it was an old model 10 until I picked it up and saw the old style humpback hammer. I opened the crane and didn't see a model...
