My wife just earned a wife of the year award

Your wife sounds a lot like mine. A good wife like that is a blessing and a treasure. We're both very lucky men. I was forced into an early retirement due to health (loss of balance) and must use a cane or walker and can no longer drive, and my wife simply dotes over me. To help with my...

    Wife's Mint M34

I taught my wife to shoot with a Walther THP. Then I stumbled onto a little masterpiece: the Model 34 with a 4" barrel, adjustable rear sight and ramp front sight. She's DEADLY with it! And she almost always shoots it DA. I believe this gun was made around 1964, but I could be mistaken.

Lamentations-Thoughts on Living without my 5906.....

I've been there, my friend. Although I've never had to have a great deal of work done to any S&W firearm I've owned, I know what it feels like to have one of your best friends on a gunsmith's bench for an extended period. And it hurts. All I can say is take solace in your other "best friends."...

    Thoughts on the 5906

The 5906 has always been my favorite S&W semi-auto 9mm. I loved the grip, which wasn't much bigger than my all-time favorite 9mm, the Browning Hi-Power, and always had a pleasing profile, like the Browning. The two samples I owned had splendid sights and were very accurate. Those were great...

Final UPDATE -- 640 Pro Series - How Low Is Too Low??

This is a bit unrelated, but my parents (both 80+) just purchased a matching pair of S&W 643s which are marked with the Performance Center logos rather than the standard S&W logo. I was extremely impressed that both guns had remarkably light double-action only pulls. I never thought it possible...

    Anyone here suffer from Tinnitus?

I played in a LOUD rock band all through high school and college. During a "feedback accident," my head was between the front of one of our huge PA speakers and a closed glass window when someone switched on a microphone too close. My left ear was closest to the speakers, my right next to the...

    Refinish an M-39-2 frame?

Sorry I missed my point. I digressed. Zinc and aluminum defy finishing to any satisfactory degree. Anodizing aluminum produces mixed results. Just keep it clean and feed it properly, and it will serve you well for many years to com.

    Refinish an M-39-2 frame?

I have to agree. I've got a little Iver Johnson TP-22 I've had since around 1983 or so. The frame and slide are made of a zinc-based allow, not aluminum. And the finish on my gun has long since vanished. However, me and my children have put more than 60.000 rounds through this little pistol...

    Rust removal

Electro-Tech from Franklin, IN might do what you want, but they are extremely expensive. They will deliver naked steel back to you. If money is no object, they will electroless-plate everything that I GUARANTEE will NEVER rust or corrode. Like I said, it's expensive. Depends on what you're...

    Hogue Grip Removal (No Screws)

BTW, a mixture of Hoppe's #9 Copper Solvent, along with Break-Free CLP seems to be the best for removing rust from stainless steel exteriors.

    Hogue Grip Removal (No Screws)

About 10 years ago, I bought a Model 686-6 for my son, used but in superb condition. It's a snubbie, but my son always shot it like it had at least a 6" tube. I've only completely disassembled the gun once, but for the life of me, I can't remember what it took to remove that Hogue grip. My son...
