    "New" Model 60-3

My passion for 3" revolvers was satisfied recently. Spotted a Model 60 (.38 Spcl) with a 3" barrel and bobbed hammer in a local gun store. The guy behind the counter thought the hammer was a modification by a prior owner. In reviewing the SCSW, there was no mention of the serial number sequence...

What revolvers do you use as a CCW?

    Current favorites are a 642-1 (with CT lasergrips) and a 640-3 (.357).

What is your favorite home defense handgun?

Current bedside gun is a S&W M36 (3" barrel, Crimson Trace laser grips, Hornady Critical Defense 110 grain ammo). There is a S&W 3913 near the front door, a Charter Arms Undercover (148 gr wadcutter) near my recliner, and a Ruger SR9c close by.

Safety On Or Off? 3rd Gen S&W

I do carry a 3913 on occasion (appendix/IWB). As some others have said, I leave the safety on while holstering, and then slide it off so that it is ready to go. My other CCW option is a Centennial 642, so the operating process (draw and shoot) is the same for both.

    J frame for Home Defense?

I believe a J-frame with 5 rounds is sufficient, but.... My current bedside gun is a model 36-3 Ladysmith (steel frame, 3" barrel) with CT lasergrips. It is loaded with standard pressure .38 Spcl, as my intent was to have something my non-shooting wife could use in an emergency. That 36-3, kept...

    DOB on Model 57 please

The 3-letter/4-number sequence began in the early 1980's. I did not see any reference to the AUN prefix in the SCS&W. Value may be in the area of $500.

    Model 15-3 LE Markings?

Thanks for the feedback. I will do more research to confirm.

    Model 15-3 LE Markings?

Recently bought a well-used 15-3 (speckled finish, but the cylinder locked up tight and the trigger action smooth) with serial # 8K67xxx (1975?). On the left side of the frame, below the cylinder, it is marked "L.A.S.D. 3037" which may represent some law enforcement agency/inventory number. Is...

    New Revolver Day: 642-1

A 642-1 was my first J-frame, and it is my frequent CCW companion. Recently added Pachmayr compact grips, which fill my hand better than the factory boot style.

What guns do you carry the most?

For on-body carry, my usual choices are a KT .32 or .380 with a S&W 642. For my daily commute to and from the office, a Taurus 85 rides in my briefcase.

Am I crazy? What's the largest handgun you CC??

Shootist 1894, that is one beautiful piece. The largest handgun I have carried comfortably is a Glock 23. I am trying to adapt to a Colt Double Eagle Combat Commander (IWB with a sturdy belt) for occasional CCW duty. More than just the weight, I would have trouble finding a place for that long...

Double action trigger pull - Model 36 vs Model 442

I have a 642-1 and a 36-3. While the trigger pulls are similar, the 642 feels smoother, probably because it has been fired more often. The trigger action on your new 442 will certainly benefit from regular exercise.

    J-Frame Recommendations/Comments

In its role as a BUG, weight would seem to be more important than looks. I recommend going with the 442 for that reason alone, with cost being a supporting factor.
