    .44 Newbie Advise Wanted

I've read from several sources that Titegroup burns with a hot flame front, and that it may or may not be best for cast bullets. I use to use 9.3 gr. of Universal Clays for every day loads for woods walking or range days. Has most similar characteristics to Unique, but it is easier to meter...

UPDATE w/pics & OEM vs. UM -- Just ordered S&W OEM grips for 686.

I have and enjoy an L-frame Mountain Gun. It came with Hogue made soft grips, which I didn't care for aesthetically or to hold. I had an opportunity to trade for current set of soft grips that were/are standard on the S&W Governor. I think it suits the Mountain Gun amazingly well.

OEM is short for "Original Equipment Manufacture". Means factory original.

Removing M&P 10 stock flash hider

I often use the M&P10 from a bench supported position at longer range steel targets. The rifle recoil makes it difficult to spot my shot, whether from sand bag or with tripod. I saw this thread and decided to have a go at removing the flash hider and installing a midwest Industries muzzle...

replacement barrels for the M&P 10

As soon as I submitted my reply, I had one of those "duh" moments. Primary Arms sells DPMS pattern bolt carriers and bolts. I find it a revelation that such a barrel/bolt carrier group swap puts the M&P 10 back on par with most other DPMS based AR10's. My barrel is not shot out, but the...

replacement barrels for the M&P 10

I wonder if a machine shop could cut the rearward serrations on a DPMS bolt carrier such that the S&W forward assist might then engage and work with the DPMS bolt? That might prove to be the best of all worlds.

Single Actions in .44 Special Caliber

There's some really nice examples of SA .44 specials in this thread. Thanks for sharing ! Yep, .44 special is a fav with me as well. Great field pieces in the NM mountains and desert. Have only one SA in .44 special, a Lipseys special run Ruger New Vaquero .44 Spl. These seem to have an...

Best Home Defense round for heavily muscled and fat guys?

To the OP. I keep reading references that under high stress situations, law enforcement officers using their firearm, make hits a little less than 20 percent of the time. Would anyone want to miss 4 out of 5 shots fired with a .454 Casull or .460 S&W, inside their home, within a densely...

    Real world effectiveness of 642

Whenever I follow a discussion on effectiveness of .38 snubs, the infamous images of Jack Ruby shooting Lee Harvey Oswald in November, 1963 come back to me. I recall Ruby used a Colt lightweight .38 snub, instead of a j-frame, and the bullet was an unremarkable lead projectile. Perhaps the...

629 Followed me home today, Pics

Nice find ! 3-inch barreled 629's are a relatively rare model, but they are excellent shooters. These 3-inchers are easy to carry in the woods, pack a lot of punch for bigger critters, and I find they can be grasped and swung around on to target with confidence. I'm sure you will enjoy it.
