    hammer spring replacement question

Perhaps I did not ask my question specifically enough. Is there an advantage or disadvantage to keeping the stock main spring but shortening the strain screw to achieve a 9.5 pound trigger pull, versus putting in a Wolf reduced power main spring and then having to use a longer strain screw to...

    hammer spring replacement question

I have changed hammer springs and rebound slide springs on several Smith & Wesson revolvers with generally good results. On both of my N frames, I installed a wolf reduced power hammer spring- but then had to obtain a longer strain screw to provide enough tension to get it to be fully reliable...

    New 686 Mountain gun

To give credit where it is due, I contacted Lipseys who put me in touch with the appropriate person at Smith and Wesson. My revolver's frame was replaced and returned to me in about a month. I am very pleased with the customer service I received from both Lipseys and Smith and Wesson.

    New 686 Mountain gun

I appreciate your reply, I don't believe I am trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill... I simply asked for the collective wisdom available on this site. I have owned a total of seven Smith & Wesson revolvers prior to this one all of which were made from the late 80s to present none of...

    New 686 Mountain gun

Yes, that is why I asked whether I should see if Lipseys or S&W would correct it. My other Smith and Wessons (629s and M&P 340) are all MUCH tighter- to the extent that a single thickness of paper slips in with some drag.

    New 686 Mountain gun

For reference a folded $20 fits in the gap easily and is approximately 0.020 thick.

    New 686 Mountain gun

I recently picked up my 686 mountain gun which I ordered the day after they were announced at SHOT show. I carefully examined it at my dealer prior to completing the paperwork and found that the barrel was not canted, the timing was good, the barrel cylinder gap was excellent and there was no...

    QC new S&W mountain guns

Just wondering how many have had the opportunity to hold one of the new Smith and Wesson mountain guns in their hands? I have read of only 1 individuals experience and it sounds as though there were some significant issues. I'm hoping that it is a one off rather than a trend. Thanks

432UC Ti (Titanium) - A Cautionary Tale re: Ammo Pressure

FWIW I learned recently that titanium cylinders expand more with pressure than steel and then contract back, causing more difficult extraction, even with appropriate pressure loads. It is just the nature of titanium that it is for lack of a better term more elastic than steel.

    Cylinder fitting

FWIW, I have done exactly what you intend to do three times, twice for my self once for a friend. One time I needed an end shake washer, one time I needed to file the rear of the barrel a couple thousands and once was a drop in fit. I did this shortly after the "no lock" M&P 340s were...

NEW 629 and 686 NO LOCK MOUNTAIN GUNS ANNOUNCED!

Looking carefully at the pictures on line from SHOT show. it would appear that the 686 mountain gun does NOT have the usual front lock that engages the end of the ejector rod?? Why would they delete this? A ball detent does not seem as secure as locking at the end of the ejector rod.

NEW 629 and 686 NO LOCK MOUNTAIN GUNS ANNOUNCED!

I have wanted a 686-5 mountain gun since I learned of their existence 20 years ago. I have placed my order for a new one and would like to convey my thanks to Lipseys and Smith and Wesson.

    Hand wanted for 629-4

Thanks Mike. I will take it.

    Hand wanted for 629-4

I have peened the two of the ratchets and it did improve the slowest two chambers. The revolver functions fine when fired double action but is slightly slow in both double and single action (worse) when a little drag placed on the cylinder. As I have two of the same model, it is easy to...

    Hand wanted for 629-4

My current hand is .094 and also seems to be aggressively beveled at the tip in comparison to my other 629, my window measures .0985 so I thought asking for one at .097 would be the way to go since I can aways stone it down slightly if needed. I would consider purchasing a .096" thick hand if...
