I see a part of the cylinder that sticks out. It is a ring that is the same diameter as the hole through the cylinder, and sticks out about 1/32 to 1/16 of an inch I would guess. It does not seem to move. Is that the gas ring or just part of the cylinder? This is a 629-2 made in 1989 if that...

I took the crane off the frame, and then took the cylinder off. I do not see a gas ring at all. Should this piece be easily identifiable? I have looked at schematics, and I see all the other parts of the ejector rod assembly, but no gas ring. Perhaps this part got lost at a previous cleaning...

I have cleaned the gun, and tried again... same problem, so I don't think a dirty gun is the cause. The firing pin hole looks like my other firing pin holes, and my spent primers look normal too... Any other ideas?

I have a 629-2 mountain gun, manufactured in 1989 according to its product code and information in The Standard Catalogue of Smith and Wesson. I am not the original owner but the gun appears to have been fired little. When I dry fire it, everything works fine and the cylinder turns freely...

I am looking for a S&W model 27, preferably. Blued or nickel plated is OK, and would prefer a 3.5" barrel. Alternatively, I might consider a similar S&W model 28. I am in Georgia, and would like to find one in my state. Thanks
