Excellent information. This gun fits the owner well and she shoots it fairly well for a beginner. She's not a good candidate for anything more powerful and she says she paid $100 for it. Sounds like a decent bargain for what she needs. Thank you sirs.

My 442 DAO with essentially no sights, and mature eyes, puts me squarely 3-5 yards proficient range. 7+ yards makes me realize the value of a good laser grip for this piece.

CCI mini-mags for mine, but will continue to seek less expensive am. I could not get it to cycle and eject the Federal Value pack (figures, because I just found a good deal on 5,000 rounds). The gun only has 330 rounds through it so I suspect the issue with Federal will disappear once broken...

Yes, older K frame might be perfect. I read up on the 317s, size and weight would be just right, but lots of posts mentioned difficulty getting a light trigger and reliable ignition. I believe I will look for a nice Model 18. Thank you all (great pics Engine49guy).

I'm thinking of a Model 617 as a present for my wife to shoot steel target, maybe competition. She has trouble with muzzle-heavy guns and heavy trigger pulls. I'm sure a good smith can tune the action, but are there safe and effective ways to shave weight off the barrel/lug and not sacrifice...
