My First S&W Revolver...A Highway Patrolman!!

Congratulations! My first S&W was a 28-2 6" I bought new in 1971. Learned a lot, shot Police Pistol Competition at an indoor range in Waukegan IL that used to be an old bowling alley. I've only got one N frame now and keep thinking that my 629 6" could use a 627 or an older 27/28 to keep...

    617 or 63?

I've got a 6" newer model 617 and an older m63 pre-lock round butt. Both are great, I want a 4" 617 next. Small hands will love the 63, medium or larger hands will like the 617.

Downgrading of Loads in Manufacturer's Manuals

Were all the loads downgraded or just the RL-22 loads? Maybe they retested under slightly different conditions and came up with different results and naturally published the more conservative data.

    Economies of Scale re: Handloading

Rick, Glen_Farmer's numbers look good to me. Now the truth is that I don't save a single cent by reloading. Because the cost per round is less, I shoot three times as much! For me it is not really as much about the cost as it is shooting. Reloading is another part pf my shooting hobby. I...

    Crimps for Plated Bullets

I pretty much load plated bullets only in 38/.357, .40, 44 and 9mm. Since I do not load full house loads in any of them a slight taper crimp is all that I need with Dillon dies. Overcrimping too much will cause separation of the plating and less than ideal results to say the least. For the...

Cleaning burn-rings off the cylinder face?? I just can't make much headway!

The owner of my local range got me to try this stuff and it works pretty well. Miracle Cloth It's not perfect but it works with a lot less effort than some other things I've tried like Hoppes Elite. I'm not sure if it is harmful to blueing so I have not tried it on my blue guns. I think the...

    617 10 Shot

Well, there is one thing about my 6" 10 shot 617... I want a 4" to go with it

    Replace a 65-3 with what?

If you like the K frame and stainless then it has to be the 64. Besides, you don't have one of those

    Wolf laquer coated ammo

I've shot a couple of thousand .40 S&W polymer coated Wolf in a Glock 23, Sig 229 and Sig 226 without a single problem. The .40 is very clean burning and like most all ammunition, it shoots better than I do.

    29 -2 KaBoom

Any chance that this was a bullet in barrel? In the top pictures the casing at the top left has a spent primer and the casing at the top right has an intact primer. The round in the topmost cylinder is not visible of course. Could it be that the top left round was under-charged and left the...

Anyone Had the Barrel Lug Milled Off?

I recall reading about a custom gunsmith that ground off half the lug on a 617. Not this is starting to make me think about a half lug slab sided 617....
