In the 50,s & 60,s the 30-06 was by far the most popular caliber in my part of Alaska. It may have been overtaken by the .338 but the 30-06 is still very popular.

Does anyone still have their first gun ?

I still have my first gun, a Savage 6M .22 mag. Gift from my parents in 1961. I never really liked it much, ammo was pricey and not as powerful as a centerfire. Still I will always treasure it.

    Ported? Why? Why not?

Back in the early 70,s I had a 6 in M19 magnaported. It may have helped muzzle climb slightly but for the most part I think it was a waste of money.
