    Model 686 barrel 'crown' question

Why did they do it? I don't know but I didn't like it so I fixed it. Now the rifling has better presentation at the crown. :) I also took the opportunity to smooth out the forcing cone. . 686+ TALO before chamfering . . . 686+ TALO after chamfering . .

S&W 296 Titanium Cylinder and Loads + potential flame cutting of frame

The 296/396/696 family's weak point is the forcing cone, not the cylinder's thickness which being a five shot has offset stop notches which don't reduce their thickness any & are robust enough of for hotter than standard 44 Special SAAMI loads. The M69 fixed the FC weakness issue. Some people...

    625-5 Classic 45 Colt Value???

Here's its pinto cousin which was an exclusive run also. What's not to like about a 5" full-lug 45 Colt? ;) . .

Anyone tried the rimrock 260 gr “Keith” style in 44 magnum

I bought some from them to try using their "bullets by the pound" option but haven't loaded/shot them yet. I believe I ordered the .431" sizing option. Here are the specs/dimensions of the sample I received: Rim Rock 260gr L-SWC-FB, BHN 15 --------------------------------------- Wt: 261.6gr...

    Two tone CS40

Congrats on your find! :) Concerning your range test results one thing popped into my mind that you might want to check on. My CS40, & I assume all/most others, had no freebore/leade cut into the chamber/barrel. This can cause some real problems depending on what ammo or handloads you're...

Picked up a 1066 this afternoon

Congrats on your find! :) They are Trijicon sights & you can get them re-lamped from them. Most people just send in the slide but you can ask them when you work with them on the RMA#. I have the actual paper New Product Introduction flyer for the 1066-NS (below) & it states there that only...

    Firing pins

The M610-3 (mfd. 2019) that I bought new had such a firing pin in it. Other 610 owners have also reported such type of firing pin. None of my other S&W revolvers, nor any of the S&W replacement/spare firing pins I've ever bought are like this. . . . .

    S&W Product “Improvements” in 1990s

The EDM/ECM rifling's clearly not as sharply defined, when viewed at the muzzle, as broach cut but it clearly doesn't make a difference in accuracy for me. I have way more EDM/ECM cut barrelled pistols & when they're right they're good shooters. For me, either one will & can lead the barrel. I...

Trijicon No Longer Making 3d Gen Sights

Just a FYI about buying new old stock Trijicon sights online. A few years ago I found some doing an on line search at a reasonable price from an independent retailer. They looked unused when I received them but then I noticed the date stamped them, 2014, they were halfway through the factory's...

    Opinions on a 296

Good find! The makings of a fine 44 trifecta. :) I've got its brother, the 396NG . .

    625-8 Performance Center

There are some notable difference between the two. I listed them in my previous post below. I agree that since S&W currently doesn't see fit in making any 45ACP revolvers having more than one isn't a sin. . https://smith-wessonforum.com/threads/s-w-625jm-vs-625pc.211614/#post-139100202 . . ...

    Full Underlug Model 29 Classic

Late 1987 was when the first N-frame full-lug was married to the 44 Magnum. It was only known as the Mystery Magnum until the You Name It contest. . . . . . . . I love my 5" 629-6 Classic . .

    TSW matching slide and frame?

The CHP 4013TSWs, like my 1998 model below, had Sxxxx inventory numbers on the frame/slide/barrel. . .
