At one time, about 20 years ago, I had 2 696's. Stupidest thing I ever did was to sell them.
I really wish S&W would bring it back. I know they have the model 69, but it has a shorter barrel and just doesn't "do it" for me. I want the full under lug 3" barrel.
My primary interest in the 10mm ruger is that it also fires .40s&w. I believe that would make a much better ccw round than the .357mag. The .357 is 3 times louder than a .40. 3 times! If I ever have to use it indoors or in a car myself and my family will only suffer ringing ears...
I'm about to go down to the local dealer and pick up a GP-100 3" 10mm. But, I'd really prefer it be a 686 in 10mm.
Any chance in hades of this happening?
I believe it failed due to the titanium cylinder. They give the gun an awfully rough action compared to stainless. They are also a pain in the freakin behind to clean and maintain compared to stainless.
I'd give my left nut for a 10mm L-frame 3".

I'll just leave it at that.
I was going to by a Pro when I bought my 649. The lock has now been disabled and it's had a trigger job. I put a Hi-Viz front sight on it.
If I had it to do again, I'd do the same exact thing and get the 649.
I have a 3" 686. I have a great holster for it too. Never carry it. Too big to conceal without a lot of over garment and heavy. Stays in the truck.
I purchased a 649 to carry. Conceals much easier. I also have a 642 for when I need to pocket carry.
J frames rule for edc.
They make awesome pocket and ankle guns. I've had mine for about 4 years. No finish issues. Not sure which -model it is off the top of my head. No lock. Wear it on the ankle almost every day as a backup.
