    Lead fouling in cylinder chambers

Thanks everyone for your comments and advice. I should have mentioned that the Model 63 is a .22 rimfire. I should also have mentioned that I am of the old school who always clean a gun after every use. I believe my problem obtained from the fact that the .22 caliber phosphor bronze bore...

    Lead fouling in cylinder chambers

I’m very fond of my four-inch Model 63-3. Recently I noticed what appears to be some lead fouling near the ends of the cylinder chambers at the end nearest the forcing cone. It doesn’t seem to have had any effect on the operation or accuracy of the little gun and I’m unsure of what, if...

.44 Special vs .45 ACP for home defense

Thanks Stan - I guess a little reassurance was a big part of what I was looking for. I'm pretty sure I'll be going with the 44. That 629 Classic was my first love and we're still pretty sweet on each other!

.44 Special vs .45 ACP for home defense

Nope - not buying anything new but I might have some .45s to sell after a while.

.44 Special vs .45 ACP for home defense

Thanks to you too shocker. I didn't know that the db scale was a log scale. My experience has been that the Special was a lot quieter than the Magnum. Looks I'm back to the .44 Special. Confidence counts for a lot.

Thanks pete - actually, that's the plan. Sorry I didn't make that clear.

.44 Special vs .45 ACP for home defense

You're right old cop and thanks. First things first. I guess it's like the best carry gun question: it's not about caliber or type, the best carry gun is one you'll actually carry.

.44 Special vs .45 ACP for home defense

eb07: That's good information. So maybe I'm just as well off switching back to my .44 Magnum full loads. Thanks

.44 Special vs .45 ACP for home defense

Arik: You're right of course. And I'm more confident in my wheel guns because I'm better with them. That's why I'm thinking about giving up the .45s.

.44 Special vs .45 ACP for home defense

I used to keep a 629 Classic loaded with .44 Magnum Hydra-Shoks ready for home defense. It occurred to me that my hearing would be so damaged by firing a .44 magnum indoors that I wouldn't be able to hear them testify at my trial (or anything else ever again for that matter). So I switched to...

    Leaving gun in holster

Thanks for your help. And my 640 is stainless with synthetic grips. Your remark about the tanning process reminded me of a stainless thermos that started to corrode after I began removing coffee stains with chlorine bleach. I think I will leave my snubbie out at night and, besides, that will...

    Leaving gun in holster

I carry a 640 New Centennial in a 'pouch' type holster on my belt. The holster is all natural leather and has a flap which folds over from the top enclosing and effectively concealing the revolver within. When relaxing at home with other weapons at hand, I remove the holster from my belt. Is...
