No need, just clean & lube after shooting is sufficient. Unless you have curious little kids I wouldn't even unload it at night. Just tuck it to bed in your nightstand next to you.

I also have a 40ve and I think this gun is great. I added a Crimson Trace laser for S&Gs. I find it a decent carry gun. Buying a 9mm Sigma would be a good idea especially if you go to the range a lot since 9mm ammo is much cheaper than .40 and you'd be using basically the same frame gun...

Ah you'd spend $500 ammo, and range fees anyway whether it's a Sigma or a 1911. As far as in time, well that's just part of the fun. Besides it's a challenge.
