    The old S&W that I had was like a model 60 but it had a shrouded hammer. Not sure what model it was but it was SS.

    I guess my memory from 1970 is incorrect. Thanks for the info. From pictures of model 48 and 51 the shape of the top of the grips looks more like pictures of 51’s. Were there variations of grips on the 48?
