    S&W 629-4

I was lucky enough to locate a 629-4 a few months ago and it has become my favorite revolver by far. It is an absolute joy to shoot, powerful and accurate, but not the beast that my Ruger .44 magnum was. I may have just gotten lucky, but this gun is stock (except for the grips) and I would not...

Are There Any REAL Gunsmiths Left?

Thanks to all for the suggestions and thanks especially to Bill for the pictures and the explanation. I am a lot less concerned about the prospects for getting my gun repaired now that I understand the issue better. I will contact the suggested smiths and I'll bet I can find someone to fix me...

Are There Any REAL Gunsmiths Left?

I hope my S&W brethren will forgive me for asking a question concerning a non-S&W rifle but I am about at my wit's end here. I have a Winchester 94 in .44 Magnum that was manufactured in 1971. It is one of my favorite rifles and I carry it with me to my farm regularly. Recently it has developed...

    Perfect Packin' Pistol

This beautiful gun was not called "The Backpacker" for nothing. Model 629-4; it is my constant companion during excursions through the woods. We have a lot of wild hogs in east Texas and I never approach a downed pig without this gun drawn and aimed directly at its head. More than once I have...

    Question re Etched Serial Number

I saw a 29-4 today that had its serial number etched rather than stamped. Both in the yoke and on the bottom of the grip the serial number was etched - each character was made up of a series of dots. I have never seen this before. IS this odd or did I just learn something (again)? Thanks...

    My New 629-4 Backpacker

I picked up this magnificent 1994 vintage 629-4 Backpacker this evening. It appears to be unfired or very nearly so. It is a beautiful example of one of my favorite S&W revolvers. It was a good day!

    Holster Care

I have a couple of 60 year old George Lawrence holsters that I use to carry my S&W and Colt snubbies. I use these holsters simply because they suit me better than any new ones I have found. They are both in very nice condition and I would like to keep them that way - understanding that they...
