Just got the gun out of the safe and checked again. By scraping carefully over the area, it does appear that someone plugged the hole with lead. Glad to know that as I would like to replace the lanyard ring and find some original grips. Thanks.
Nice Victory. I have one with serial #6621xx that is missing the lanyard ring. My frame does not have the hole that yours does. I'm not sure how the lanyard ring was attached to mine. I also need original grips as mine came with rubber cushion grips.

This gun is a Model 57 no dash with serial #S237379. I have been shooting this 57 for a couple of years and really like the way it shoots. A previous owner (Jack) did an unthinkable (to me) thing as you can see in the photo. May be an engraver could do something to hide the name? Can anyone tell...
The second picture above has a pretty picture of the sight. Will get a closer one tomorrow from a different angle. Also will try for a better shot of the left grip frame.

Just got a magnifying glass and the Pre 24 out of the safe. I agree that it has a large B on it's side in the barrel shroud.
Another question please. My 38/44 with a 1955-56 serial number has excellent nickle plating but there not an N or a B anywhere to be found. Could it be factory original...
You guys gave me so much info on my pre 24 that I would like for you to have a go at this one. I think it is probably a very nice restore. Bought on Gunbroker about 3 years ago. The left grip frame has a Z and the numeral 8 but can't see it in the pictures. The only numbers on the cylinder is...
The M&P does have a serial number in the 1922 to 1927 range as Absalom indicated. Thanks to Muley Gil for the tint information. I sure have a lot to learn and you guys are a big help.
Just checked and Bill is correct about the B stamped in the injector rod shroud and there is a B on the grip frame. Also I'm pretty sure the hammer and trigger are plated. The revolver shows very little wear. I'm anxious to get to the range to see how it shoots.
These two are either nickle or hard chromed. I'm guessing the 38/44 is nickle and the model 10 is chromed but as said, I'm just guessing. The trigger and hammer are not nickle or chrome on either.
Thanks guys for the additional information. Glad to see the pictures of the coke grips. May be hard chromed instead of nickle. Not sure that I could tell the difference. Does have me wondering about a couple of my other revolvers. I will post them to see what you think.
I have not been able to find pictures of the grips that are not relieved online or in any of my books. I have the 4th edition of the Standard Catalog of S&W coming. Thanks Conrad.
