My newly adopted problem child sent home & back w/ pics!

The barrel seats in position at a certain torque in relationship to the thread orientation, and the back seating surface of the barrel. Adding the pin hole pre installation just makes one more critical dimension, and if slight adjustment is needed, the pin ain't gonna line up. If there's a...

    I had to pass today.

Even if the hole in the receiver is milled during the production process, the barrel hole is milled after the barrel is installed, so it would do nothing to stop their army of minimum wage assemblers from installing things bass ackwards.

Is the frequency of lemons increasing?

As with any publicly traded company, making money for the stock holder, or screwing the stock holder so that someone else can make money, is the only priority. The product, the customer, these are not even considerations. Sad, but this is the world we live in.

Model 29-3 repaired by S&W, disaster, anyone seen anything like this?

After some thought, I'm going to send it back. Hopefully it comes back all good this time. I see this is a problem that's not unique to this gun. Thanks for the replies.

Model 29-3 repaired by S&W, disaster, anyone seen anything like this?

I did not notice honestly. It started acting up from the first shot fired. And this is not the first time I've have issues with S&W service, although the last time was warranty on a 317. It went back 3 times, and then was replaced. The replacement was a 617 because they did not have any 317's...

Model 29-3 repaired by S&W, disaster, anyone seen anything like this?

The trigger stud had come loose on this thing, and my local smith told me it had to go back to the factory for that, so I sent it back to S&W for repair, and due to the nature of the work, a refinish. The refinish looks great. These parts were also in the bag upon return, it looks like the hand...

Sent Model 29 for service "barrel seized to frame"

I bought it around 1988. I think I paid $200 for at the time, second hand from a friend. It has a ton of rounds through it. Trigger stud, re-blue, fix a few other things, estimate of $350. I'm thinking just put it towards another revolver.

Sent Model 29 for service "barrel seized to frame"

The trigger stud broke on my Model 29-3. Since the forcing cone erosion is getting close to the edge, I asked if that could be fixed too. I received a letter from Smith that the barrel is seized to the frame, and all they could do is clean up the forcing cone "as best as possible". I'm thinking...

Model 29-3 Forcing Cone Erosion- At What Point Should I Worry?

OK, thanks. Does anyone recommend a Smith to do the work when the time comes?

Model 29-3 Forcing Cone Erosion- At What Point Should I Worry?

My model 29-3. Nothing special, but is was my dads and has some sentimental value. I've shot all kinds of ammo through it, from reloads to factory ammo. Noticed the erosion last cleaning. At what point should I have this fixed, and who is good that does this kind of work? I assume the barrel...

Picked up a 586 (no dash)

I have been shooting 357 through my 686 no dash with no problems. I have no intentions of sending it in for the Modification.

First happy, then disappointed - 617... Now happy again!

I have an old model 17 that will go hundreds of rounds without ejection problems, and the cases just get a small mark at the extractor star. Boring the chambers and extractor star together would fix the buldging problem.

Any negatives to buying a 686 no dash?

I have been shooting the absolute **** out of this one,no dash, no M stamp, and at least 1000 rounds of 357 with no problems. I would not pass up a no dash 686.

    SW 317 .22 Jamming Problems

I had a model 63 go back 3 times with the exact same problem your having, and they replaced it with a 617 that shot and ejected OK, but after a few range trips i noticed it leaded like crazy. The forcing cone was almost non existent. On the phone Smith said 22 revolvers lead, but I could send it...

Poor customer service, quality control = Immediate Return

For those who say S&W has no QC department, your wrong. They hire new QC inspectors all the time. Every time someone buys a new gun, they just hired a new QC inspector.
