    cast lead for defense

A large distance from me, I'd hope:)

    Casting time

I use a Lee 4-20 bottom pour and a hotplate. The hotplate preheats the mold so I can drop good bullets right from the start (and can easily open the sprue cutter) and I also use it to melt the lead for the Lee bottom pour which really speeds things along. No "spout freeze". Recently, I...

Sizing and lubing cast bullets. *Updated 3\11*

I use the Lee push through sizer dies for 9mm/38 and 45 and I size every bullet out of my Lee 6 cavities and Lyman 4 cavity 45 mold. With the Lee molds, I found a "fat bullet" every once-in-awhile so have made it a practice to just run everything through for consistency's sake. I spray a very...

    Cast Bullets and Lube

I've cast a lot (thousands) of 9mm/38, 40 and 45 bullets using a Lee pot and several Lee 6 cavity molds (and one Lyman 4 cavity-200gr SWC.) I've used the Lee push through sizers on all of them and it's very fast and the dies are around $14.00. The dies are easy to modify if Lee doesn't offer...

    Lead Wheelweights being eliminated?

California banned lead wheel weights and, since they use so many, manufacturers have started making wheel weights out of zinc and steel and who knows what else. So, we all get to have them. At least the children grazing the roadside will be safe, now. My yield of lead wheel weights in a 5...

    Powder Choice for .45acp

I use both Clays and W231 in my 45's. I think Clays is a bit cleaner but I like both powders. It seems like 231 measures more accurately than Clays. I use 3.6 to 4.0 grains of Clays with 200gr Lyman SWC lead bullets and 5.0gr of W231 with the same bullet. The 3.6grs of Clays load gives me...

cleaning media(I know you've mentioned it many times, but...)

I use walnut "Lizard Litter", dryer sheets and "Endust". I spray the Endust on the media and let it vibrate awhile before adding brass. BTW, the dust from the media is something you don't want to inhale. When retrieving the brass from the tumbler, I do it outside and wear a mask.

    Coffee Cans?

I wouldn't use a coffee can (seam) or anything aluminum no matter how "heavy duty" it looks. A cast iron or stainless steel pot works fine. Cast iron is brittle, though, and I've read (on the cast bullet forum Cast Boolits - Dedicated To The World Of Cast Bullets!) of the cheaper, Harbor...

Opinions on SW 620 7 round

I haven't owned my 620 very long and it's my only revolver. (I did own a 2 1/4" barreled SP101 .357 for a few years. 30-40 years ago, I owned a couple of M19's along with several single action Ruger's). I'm a pistol shooter (1911's) but thought I should get a revolver "to widen my horizons"...

Loading 9mm for the 1st time

I've had very good luck with both the Lee 124 TL (tumble lube design) RN and 125 RN bullets cast from wheel weights, sized to .357 in a: M&P full size, CZ Compact and STI 9mm Trojan with powder charges of 3.6gr to 4.0gr. of W231. The 3.6 gr, 124 gr RN load groups 2.5" offhand at 25 yards in the...

    M620 cast bullet loads (pics)

I'm really getting a kick out of the 620. This is my first Smith in around 40 years. I owned a M19 back then and it had a beautiful blue job but I had trouble shooting it due to the grips. I did own a Ruger SP101 2 1/4" for awhile but it wasn't fun to shoot as it just didn't fit my hands well...

    M620 cast bullet loads (pics)

I loaded up some light cast bullet loads for steel plate practice (don't have to make power factor) and also for my wife to shoot. The bullets are Lee's 105gr SWC and their 125gr RN (non tumble lube design) loaded with W231. The targets were shot at 7 yards (the distance we shoot plates) from...

    ? about a product-"Dry Wash'nGuard"

I've got a bottle that i've owned for years in the shop that I mainly used on the airplane I built, especially the leading edges of wings, tail surfaces, plexy canopy, etc. and it worked great. After a few applications, bugs wiped off with less effort. So, to answer your question about use on...

    Grip used on 3" 686 for a 620

I'd like to change the factory grip on my 620 to the round butt rubber grip that's on a 3" 686+ as that grip fits me a bit better that the stock grip on the 620. I believe the grip used on the 3" 686+ is an Uncle Mike's K/L round grip, SKU 237440000 and wanted to double check before I order one...

    9mm Load

I've shot several thousand rounds of 124gr lead RN (Lee mold) loaded from 3.6 to 4.0 grains of W231 and they've shot well through 3 9mm's. Cloudpeak
