What ammo is safe in my 629-1

kwselke, good info. Just read a Patrick Sweeney article which basically said keep the loads for your S&W at 240gr and 1200 fps and below. He did mention the newer Smith's are stronger. Looking at some load data and some of the heavy hitters OAL is beyond my cylinder length. That is what I meant...

What ammo is safe in my 629-1

I just measured my 629-1 cylinder at just a tad over 1.7" that precludes some loads for me. It would be interesting to hear what newer ones measure. It seems we are on this relentless quest to load the **** out of everything. I'm going to load mine moderately and enjoy it, probably I'll mostly...

    686 Effector 357

Cool Jovino! I happened to just find a 629 Jovino the other day. Didn't know a thing about them but did a little research and some people here helped me out too. Probably don't contact Jovino gun shop I don't believe they kept records. S&W would probably be your best bet. I am going to get mine...

    Model 29 price in 1999

Shooters Bible from 1999 list the model 29 6" barrel at $574 and the 8 3/4" barrel at $586. Considering you could probably buy them for around $100 off retail that is amazing! Interestingly a Glock 17 is listed for $616 in the same catalog...about what they are today. The profit margin on a...

    629 club

S&W 629-1 Effector I was asked to post my new purchase in the 629 Club...you guys have some nice revolvers. Wow I have a long way to go, but I guess you've got to start somewhere. Here is my recent purchase. It is a 629-1 3" barreled 44 with what I understand to be a K frame grip. On the left...

    My new find

Thanks guys, it is a marvelous piece of machining. I'm going to have to ponder the grips. I love the look of wood but glenncal1 makes a point with shooting with the pachmayers. I've been told to move this to the 629 club...didn't even know it existed. New in town. Thanks for the replies.

    My new find

New here, hello. Up till now I have been an autoloader guy but I came across this from someone for $440...I think I did well. It has a 3" barrel and EFFECTOR written on the left side of the barrel. I did a little research and figured it could be a Jovino. I will have to write S&W to find out for...
