On a brief trip to Texas in the spring of 01 my wife and I visited Gonzales. We left with two copies of "the flag". The smaller decorated the wall of my office until I retired in 2010. Now it is on the wall behind the computer I am on now.
The second is in a shadow box along with the flags...
A couple of weeks ago I posted a thread on the Hand Ejector sub forum about my father in laws revolver that he used in the late 50's, early 60's while serving as a police officer. The revolver had been missing for forty or so years and recently showed back up.
One of the suggestions was to...
My wife, who just got her cc permit, is anxious for me to get it cleaned up so she can shoot it.
The action and trigger are very tight. I suspect the gun has little actual use.
Thank you all for the help and advice. Hope someday I can return the favor.
SN on the cylinder and bottom of the grip frame is 365xxx.
The one on the frame in front of the cylinder is 445XX
There is very worn checkering on the grippanels.
From the forcing cone to the end of the barrel is 5"
My late father in law served on the local police force in the late 50's early 60's. Over this past weekend a cousin gave this revolver to my wife telling her it was her fathers. Been missing forty plus years. Well the years have not been kind and the revolver is abused. Tight inside but...
Brings back memories. I killed my second deer ever with a 1911 hardballer set up by a local gunsmith and Super Vel .45 acp. Side to side in and out. Turned the lungs into a consistency like scrambled eggs. Very short blood trail.
I found a magazine still full of those cartridges the other...
S. Hammer I'm pretty sure I was living and working in Pompano when you were on the force in Boca.
I worked in a hardware store that sold guns from 68 to 74. If I remember Dirty Harry came out in 71. The store was small in gun volume so buying power was nil. Just getting in a Model 19 was an...
You have always got to hunt the wind.
Here is a link to a recipe for making your own scent killer solution. It comes from Warren who has over three hundred deer to his credit, a lot of them on video.

I bought my Model 57 6" in 1971 and we have been training each other since. For the first thirty five years the ammo of choice was Rem JSP. This accounted for a few deer and just one heck of a lot of hogs.
I learned to not like hollow point bullets in the .41 magnum. I want a hole on both...
Me too. Been using them for years. I have to really clean my nose before putting them on. I also have to get the largest size available. Got a big head, I guess.
Winchester Model 94 in 38-55. Love that carbine. Barrel is in terrible shape but it will maintain minute of deer neck out to about 75 yards. That's about all my old eyes will allow anyway.
I would ask why we can't ask. Through the years I have written the main office asking questions and never gotten a response. At one point I wrote and told them no more money until I got a response. I was a life member at the time. Still no response.
I am now endowment and I am still...
My first handgun deer was killed in 1972 with my customized Govt. Model shooting Super Vel 180 grain JHP. In and out behind the shoulder and down in fifty yards.
Nothing wrong with that but I would never do it again.
There has been some great advice here, some I would like to repeat...
