Federal HST ammo for M&P 40?

swsig...Thanks for sharing your test results! I'm going to fire 50 rounds of the HST to get a feel for them and check accuracy. Hope it checks out because I like the sound of these rounds.

No, no tower duty. My military history is rather convoluted, fairly brief and not particularly interesting. I initially enlisted 95B in the California Army National Guard and planned to continue with the military police after finishing my studies but in the end I spent my active duty time...

Federal HST ammo for M&P 40?

I just ordered two 50 round boxes of 165 grain Federal HST (P40HST3) at SGAmmo.com. Looking forward to giving it a try.

Federal HST ammo for M&P 40?

OK, thanks...that settles it. I didn't think the M&P would have a problem with these rounds but good to hear from someone who's actually using the combo. I'm going to place an order for the HST.

Thanks! Indeed, some of those army 1911's had been around a while. I recall seeing one languishing in a weapons room made by the Singer Sewing Machine Company if I recall correctly...had to have been WWII vintage. Probably worked OK though.

Wow! Thanks for sharing your real world experience with this round...very impressive. Sounds more than adequate for my purposes.

    Confessions of a ball carrier

Ballistics and "stopping power" aside a legal concern might be that you could end up in civil court after a pass through round injures or kills a bystander with the plaintiff's attorney arguing you should be held liable for failing to use modern JHP ammunition...not to mention the moral...

Federal HST ammo for M&P 40?

After decades using a 1911 I recently purchased, and will be carrying, an M&P 40. I'm now looking for a defensive load and, after doing a fair amount of homework, Federal's HST cartridge looks like a good option. However I'd like to get some input from you all before buying some HST. Do you...

Oh yeah, I know that Santana. A friend had one down in Newport CA quite a few years back. We'd take her out on a beer can race now and then. Fun boat! I haven't taken my boat to Alaska yet but that is part of the plan, hopefully sooner rather than later :) May have to sail outside to avoid...

Thanks! Actually I live on the puddle, in a boat. In fact that's why I bought the M&P. My old blued steel sidearm wasn't well suited to the marine environment.

Hogue HandALL grip on M&P 40

I found a terrific grip modification for the M&P 40 which others might benefit from as well. After recently purchasing the M&P (original version, not M2.0) I was rather disappointed by the feel of the stock grips. They weren't bad they just weren't great for my hand (I normally wear extra...

While a young man serving as an army MP, decades ago, I was trained with a 1911. Since then I've used one 1911 (a Colt Government Model, Series 70). Content with the 1911 I didn't pay much attention to developments in the firearms arena until recently when I took an interest in getting up to...

S&W CS says M&P 40 to 357 sig conversion unsafe.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your experience. Subsequent to my original post I also received a response from Storm Lake advising against firing 357 SIG with the M&P 40. Although I get the sense the danger is actually minimal and limited use of 357 SIG wouldn't do substantial harm to the...

S&W CS says M&P 40 to 357 sig conversion unsafe.

I've used 1911's for decades but I'm new to the M&P...and this forum. I recently purchased an M&P 40 (4.25" barrel, original version not M2.0) and I've been looking into buying the S&W 357 sig barrel available at Midway to convert the pistol to 357 sig. I've read many positive comments from...
