I've been trying various cleaner/lubes for the past few years. Haven't found anything noticeably superior. Reading corrosion resistance reviews led me to start using Eezox. Just got it last week, so obviously no conclusions yet. Ask again in two or three years... :D

Remember you need to get a class 6 memory chip, too. Keep enough money left over for that. (this improves on the "shutter lag" mentioned above). For point and shoot cameras, we have bought Olympus cameras, mostly the Stylus line, since before digital happened. We still like their cameras...
