I have shot several hundred rounds through mine with out an issue, both factory and reloads 125's through 158's.
I have never used the lock and dont plan to.
when i am in hostile back country I carry my 642 or model 66.

The etched barrel 44-40 only was on the new frontier as far as I know.

I read it as 1975 due to the rust.

came into posession of a 44/40 colt frontier six shooter bisley model. 259xxx
4 3/4" barrel paten date: 1874 to 1971
it is in rough shape. alot of surface rust but no major pitting. the ejector rod hand is bent and the hammer is froze.
Iam in the process of taking it apart and freeing up all...
I have carried one for about 3 yrs with no adverse affect. It fits nicely in the pocket and have had no issue with the cylinder opening. I had a set of square butt grips on it for a while and they seem a little large for a good conceal.
I like the 642 over the 442. But I usually always carry my 638 airweight.
The other go to carry is a flatlatch.
It takes a lot of practice to get efficient with a short barrel handgun. I am no means an expert but I have done the range time and can do pretty go to about 20 yards. Its fun to see...
Went to the range this morning and shot the 357 loads 158gr and imr 4227.
So far it appears to be a good load. off hand groups were about 2" at 15yrd.
recoil was mild for most part, no real sharp impact on the hands or wrist.
Shot these out of a 66-1 4" SS.
so far I like real well.
Dave
big, Do you still have any of your load data? I was looking at the diffrences in imr4227 and 2400.. the 2400 runs at a higher pressure than the 4227. say with a 158 gr bullet, full boat loads, its the opposite with loads on the low end.
I tried some 2400 with good results a while back in the 357.
15.5grs of imr4227 should give me about 1200f/s ill load 5 rounds for comparison at aprox 1100f/s 14grs.
I will be shooting these out of a 66-1 4" barrel, not real sure what ths will give me for velocity. the reloading data is based...
I tried it a while back in a .222 but didnot get good groups .
I ran some through my autoscale and it meters like ball powders.
I tested 15 drops at 15.5 grains and they were all 15.4 to 15.5.
I loaded up 20 -357 158gr xtps for a test. ill run them across the chrono and check for speed...
anyone use this for 357mag loads?
I have a pound to get rid of its been around for a while. I tried it for some rifle loads and did not get good results.
Dave
