    L Frame tighter (Patridge) sight?

I think you nailed it. I'll bet that front sight was designed for service pistols that were not fitted with a 6-in barrel. It sure would be nice to find a rear sight blade that was...

    L Frame tighter (Patridge) sight?

Yeah that's what I'm thinking. My '80s 586 had standard width Patridge in the front, and a tighter rear sight blade in the rear. But I can't find anything like that on the internet.

    L Frame tighter (Patridge) sight?

Don't know what to tell you. I shot falling plate pretty well with greatly reduced light on both sides. The Patridge blades I'm seeing on eBay all seem the same width. * I also think pistol competitions stress shooting under a time limit. I don't care about that. I like hitting what I aim at.

    L Frame tighter (Patridge) sight?

I've got a lovely blue 6-in 586 (-3 I think), but I don't like the stock sights and I'd like to replace them with what I had on a similar gun in the 80s. A patridge front (but I can't remember how tall, on the shorter end I think) but possibly a different sight blade on the rear sight? The...

Classic / New / shorter 586 grip screw

They're not threaded long enough. And don't seem to be a common thread size. Hardware store is useless.

Classic / New / shorter 586 grip screw

I have an old (pre-mim) blue 586. I bought a pair of the new wood grips because I like them and I also wanted to save the originals which are in perfect condition. But while the new grips fit the old gun just fine, they do take a shorter grip screw. That is, if I use the older screw, the end...

    quick question on sight replacement

Thank you Alan, that's good news. I just bought a 586-3 and am hoping this is the case as I want to replace a ramp with a patridge...

    quick question on sight replacement

I'm under the impression new S&W revolvers have pins in a receiver for the front sight, and are easy to pop out and replace with something different (say a patridge sight). How is this done on older, pre-lock revolvers? They appear to be solid, one piece design.

    old timer staged trigger mod

*Edit: I'm bumping this thread. In short, I'm looking for a gunsmith (possibly with PPC experience) who is familiar with modifying the (forged) sear / hammer / trigger on a pre-lock S&W 586 to give a reliable 'staged' notch in the DA pull. If you know what I'm talking about, and have a lead for...

    rebuild an original 586

Thank you, Armorer951, that's good and encouraging info. Thank you, Toblerra, will comply. I'm hoping I find one at a gun store that will take the new gun in trade. And Sodacan, the thing is, in blue with that length barrel and nice grips, it's the most handsome handgun I've ever seen. And...

    rebuild an original 586

I have a brand new 'classic' 586 (6" barrel) with a match action tune, and I hate it. (*Story at bottom). So I'm looking at options for buying and rebuilding an original 586, and I have some gunsmith questions. -If I want / need a new barrel, can I get one? Would it come from S&W or would it be...

Convert belt loop to crossdraw clips?

Thanks wabit. That's exactly what I'm doing. I've cut apart one of these paddle holsters, and trimmed the attachment plastic with a dremel. It fits nicely behind the leather, and the two bolts will go right through the forward slot. I need to pick up some longer bolts (probably need washers as...

Notch in double action pull / gunsmith term

I got an email back from Grant Cunningham that sounds right (see quote below). I don't understand why 'revolver shooters adopted the straight-through trigger pull' myself, but my guess would be that those who preferred lighter trigger pulls simply moved over to semi-autos in the 80's, and the...

    type of trigger job name?

Thanks toolguy, but it's not my impression that rubber was part of the equation. And thanks, jmd, good to get one person who knows what I'm talking about. When I first shot mine I thought 'why aren't they all like this?'

    type of trigger job name?

*Edit, nope, apparently 'stacked' means increasing pull "Some triggers (Colt, Dan Wesson) continually increase their pull weight toward the end of the stroke, an effect called “stacking”. That's not what I'm talking about. The job I had done arrested a double action pull, let you pause to aim...
