The most rusted stainless steel gun I have ever seen in person - a PSA!

Rubber grips won't necessarily allow rusting, but it is more prone. The problem is that rubber won't absorb moisture like most wood grips do and that causes rusting. Anytime you handle a pistol when your hand is moist or sweaty and that seeps under the grips you're at risk. A thin layer of...

Question - chamfering cylinder charge holes

The best method and the one used by most professionals is a 45 degree piloted reamer.... https://www.brownells.com/tools-cleaning/bore-barrel-tools/reamers-cutters/45-degree-muzzlecylinder-chamfering-cutter--brass-pilot/ People have done chamfering with un-piloted reamers but that often causes...

The most rusted stainless steel gun I have ever seen in person - a PSA!

A good trick to protect carbon and stainless steel guns from rusting under the grips is to apply coat of wax like Renaissance Museum wax to the area covered by the grips. Don't wipe this coat off, just let dry 20 minutes or so then remount the grips. The wax seals the metal from moisture. Don't...

Suggestions for removing rust from inside barrel?

Firing a bullet through a rusty bore can destroy the gun, depending on how much rust is there. This is essentially firing a bullet through an obstructed bore. Too much rust and you get anything from a bulge, ring, or blown barrel. Even with lighter rust pressure soars. Here's a professional...

Detail spray gun recomendations for Duracoat?

Here's what I'd recommend.......... https://www.amazon.com/Master-Airbrush-Single-Action-External-Siphon/dp/B000FJQ26M Other people will have other ideas, but this is what I used for large area jobs. I had much better internal mix double action brushes, but for spraying large amounts of higher...

    Not exactly Smithing: Maintaining Stainless

Metal polishes will change the appearance to a brighter shine, altering the factory grained finish. While you can use metal polishes to get a bright shine it'll never be a true factory mirror polish because metal polishes can't remove irregularities left by factory polishing. To do that you have...

    25-5 frame tigger pin fix???

JB Weld is just an epoxy with powdered metal. In it's place it's a good product, but this is not one of those places. In this application a Loctite is the appropriate product. For a good bond, carefully degrease the pin and hole to remove all traces of oil or grease. You may even want to use a...

    Nickel Plated Finish Polishing Technique.

When polishing bright nickel, less is definitely more. The less you do the better. Use a fine polish like Flitz and a microfiber cloth and do no more then you absolutely have to. ALL metal polishes are abrasive, some more then others. Each time you use one, you remove a thin layer of the...

A short post with over 50 years experience with phosphor bronze cleaning brushes

I was mistaken, American cleaning threads are 8-32. I just miss-remembered. Pro-Shot does make great cleaning gear. Years ago I bought two Pro-Shot stainless pistol rods, one for .22 and up and one for .45 size. Both are in perfect condition still.

A short post with over 50 years experience with phosphor bronze cleaning brushes

That's a big plus-one. Brownell's are excellent brushes, and the bronze chamber brushes are the best way there is to clean a chamber fast and thorough. As a heads up....Hoppe's has gone Chinese on their cleaning gear. I bought some brushes early this year that clearly state on the package...

    Rusty magazine

Soak with CLP or Kroil a day or so to soften the rust. Apply more after soaking and scrub with a brass toothbrush to remove the rust. After removal you can can cold blue. The best cold blue I found is Brownell's Dicropan T4. It gives a Black color that more closely matches modern bluing, and...

    Cleaning Magazines

Ordinary cheap paint thinner or mineral spirits work very well and you can buy either in any hardware store. Beware... a lot of todays' paint thinner is nothing like in years past. Today much of it is a milky-white color that doesn't evaporate like old thinner.

    Help choosing proper screw drivers

    Loctite 380 Black Max

The Black Max should work well. The rubbery binder prevents vibration from loosening things. Black Max and similar adhesives are heavily used in auto manufacturing to mount trim. A key to using epoxies like JB Weld is getting a correct mix of the components and properly mixing them together...
