Revolver as a back-up gun, need help

I carry a Ruger LCR .38 Special +P It's light, with a smooth trigger. I don't worry about holster/pocket rash, rust from sweat or damage if told by a LEO to drop it or it spends time in a police property room. I don't feel the same about my other more valuable handguns. It is ugly, but if I...

Dings on inside of trigger guard?

I find the casting seams, spatter and burrs on the side of the trigger in the picture much more objectionable than the little ding on the trigger guard. That said, my guns are tools, not jewels.

    Classic Car/Hotrod Buying/Ownership Advice

If you love it, buy it. But, don't buy it as an investment. Unlike your firearms there will be annual costs for registration and insurance. Don't plan for any appreciation in value. I am certain that the guy selling it is not recouping his costs. You won't either when you sell it. Also, make...

Cleaning 686-4: Lines of Crud Inside Cylinder

PO of my 686 (no dash) shot only 38spl and never cleaned the cylinders. I removed the cylinder and used a small patch of Lead-Away cloth and a piece of 5/16 wooden dowel rod chucked into my variable speed hand drill. Worked like a champ!

Have you ever just found a gun?

In 1982 I found a Colt 45 cal semiauto in a holster lying in an intersection about two blocks away from a neighborhood police station in Fort Worth, TX. I assumed a police officer had put it on his car roof at shift change and had driven off forgetting it was there. I took it to the police...

    BEST Concealed Carry Revolver

My CCR is a Ruger LCR 38spl+P. If the police make me drop it on concrete or "fail" to give it back, I won't be too P.O.'d. On the other hand, if they told me to drop my 686, they'd have to shoot me!

    Depressing news for me

I don't mean to "stir the pot" but I find this thread intriguing. Your photos showing a depression on the outside of the cylinder make me think the PO may have dropped the pistol on a very hard surface distorting that bore and then tried reaming it out to allow the insertion and ejection of...

Big Hands what grip to use?

I too have large hands and these Ahrends grips on my L frame 686 fit my hand well.

    686 picture thread

I guess this is a thread that will live forever. Here's my 4" 686 no dash.

    686 Rear Sight Help

The bottom part of the sight (that holds the sliding blade) appears slightly shifted to the left. That would account for the blade requiring adjustment to the right.

Did I really save her? A Born Again 29-3

Looks serviceable and honest. Are you going to limit it to .44 spec? I'd be concerned about the barrel strength for .44 mag.

    586

I saw a beautiful 4" 586 (no dash) at the Fort Worth Gun Show a few weeks ago and the seller was asking $775. I want one but not that badly! Enjoy yours...I'll get mine one of these days.

New (to me) 686 (no dash) 4"

About two months ago I was lucky to acquire my first S&W revolver; this 4" 686 (no dash). Based on serial number, it was shipped in '83. After much cleaning and new grips I am ready to show it off. I am overwhelmed by its smooth trigger and accuracy. FWIW, including the grips, I am under $500 spent.
