147gr bullets, wimpy ejection and recoil spring?

New 13# spring showed up and did the swap with my existing guide rod. Taped two pieces of wood in my vice to clamp the rod, pulled the spring back to clamp it. Rod still kept twisting no matter how hard clamped using the wood. Ended up (shudder) using vice grips. Got the nut loose and holding...

147gr bullets, wimpy ejection and recoil spring?

Any idea what the factory default weight is for the Pro 5" recoil spring? SSS shows 11, 13, 15, 17 and 20# springs available

147gr bullets, wimpy ejection and recoil spring?

I loaded several hundred rounds of 147gr FP bullets to run in my 5" Pro M&P. Starting at 910 FPS and average PF of 134 and up to 970 FPS and 141 PF I get a really wimpy ejection. Even at 141 PF casings are traveling two to three feet max. At the 135 PF level I start getting stove pipes. I really...

    9mm bullet weight for USPSA

I've loaded up a bunch of 147gr FP rounds and was using them for the tail end of the indoor Winter matches just fine. Like the feel. Ran my first Spring match last Thursday after couple months off and had three stove pipe on three out of four stages. One was stove pipe and jam, had to drop mag...

Aging eys and prescription shooting glasses

jimmyj: I've already done that to most of my pistols that aren't fiber optic. Have a system that works pretty well. Picked up fluorescent model paint in orange and green. Mounted a 1/4" dowel about 3" long in a block of plywood to make a stand.Slide the barrel over the dowel so the gun barrel...

    9mm powder

Have multiple bottles of different powders I picked up when first stocking up on reloading equipment. After reading the reviews in the latest Hornady book and how highly they recommended Power Pistol for 9mm that's what I went with. I've created some spread sheets for my reloading recipes...

Aging eys and prescription shooting glasses

Latest and greatest update (again) As mentioned previously, the prescription bifocal shooting glasses I received did NOT work well. The idea seemed good and may have worked better with a different prescription for the bifocal window. As made I can see my iron sights through the bifocal but not...

    Subsonic 9mm for less recoil?

COL and Bullet Seating Depth I'm growing a spreadsheet of my recipes with chrono data, PF, Spread, cartridge length, bullet length, bullet seating depth, temp, etc, etc. As part of that spread sheet I've built another sheet for the COL for my M&P Pro CORE 5". Finished the COL sheet by doing the...

    Subsonic 9mm for less recoil?

Since the 147's will be for my M&P Pro CORE 5" for USPSA thinking I should try the COL test for that gun. Insert new bullet in fired case, insert into barrel, let rifling determine max length, repeat. Subtract .015 for clearance. (simplified version)

    Subsonic 9mm for less recoil?

fredj338: Perfect answers! stykshooter: Tried a lot of different ammos and settled in on Federal Am Eagle also. Seems clean, good quality brass and I get very tight groups with it. The Fed Am Eagle 115gr RN tested very well with only a 26 FPS spread and a PF of 130 to 133 with an average PF of...

    Subsonic 9mm for less recoil?

Been battling the decision of 124gr vrs 147gr? FP or RN? Been using Berry's so far, Federal brass and Power Pistol for powder, Winchester primers. Berry's does NOT have any load data for 147gr FP but do for the 147 RN. No COL listed for 147 FP USPSA shooters seem to prefer FP to RN for cleaner...

    Subsonic 9mm for less recoil?

I've been shooting and loading 115g 9mm loads because that's what my M&P9 with 4.25" barrel likes. Heavier bullets hit high based on iron sights, 115 are right on. I'm now shooting a CORE 5" with Red Dot optic and even the heavier bullets hit similar to the 115s. Plus can tweak the optics if...

New amendment for the Carry Optics division

Not sure how many people heard but effective February 1st Appendix D7 has been amended to get rid of the ten round limit for Carry Optics. Rule #8 and #9 now allow as many rounds as can fit in a 141mm magazine. This is great news for me as I JUST converted over from Production to Carry Optics!

Aging eys and prescription shooting glasses

Latest and greatest update. Was not happy with the bifocal shooting glasses so went a different route. After checking with a couple fellow run-n-guners in the Carry Optics division I was able to check out their guns. I was immediately sold on the Carry Optic idea. M&P9 CORE 5" with Vortex Viper...
