What was intended market for Lew Horton 24-3

I really liked these. The 3" barrel and round butt concealed very well for an N frame. I had nine of these at one time, but had to sell some off when money got tight. I also had seven model 696s, but the majority of these, too, had to be sacrificed. The one 3 incher I would REALLY like back is...

    Stainless alternative finishes

CH4, those two middle pictures, those are stainless? (!!) As in a 66, not a 19?

    Stainless alternative finishes

I am an unrepentant lover of fine blue finish. Yes, I appreciate the rust resistance of stainless, but never have nor will care for it's soulless looks. I have a few pistols in stainless for the simple reason they were never available in blue versions. Can it be explained to me what finishes are...

Early Model of 1905, 4th change hammer block plunger - Pics back

Glad I found this posting. Very informative. I just bought a 1905, 4th Change, 1st Variation with the sideplate mounted hammer block and plunger, which, unfortunately, isn't in proper operating order.

    My entire Model 24-3 collection!

24-3 There are still Lew Horton models on GunBroker quite regularly. I had nine of them at one time, in addition to the 4" and 6 1/2" ones.

    1917 sight replacement

andy52, Yes, I've been rolling my own for thirty years, and have on occasion custom tailored loads for POI correction, mainly with Colt Single Action Armys.....but I dislike doing so, seeing as how I have a powder measure dedicated to a standard load for my other five .45 A.C.P.s, all of which...

    1917 sight replacement

stu1ritter, thanks for those photos. That is a very valid idea there, being small, tough, and low profile. I have extra S&W sight blade kits on hand, and it sure makes me contemplate just having it milled out for one of those.....just kind of a windage adjustable sight, minus the sight body. Can...

    1917 sight replacement

Thanks for the suggestion. That looks like it would work pretty well for target shooting, but I actually carry this old gun, and the sight looks like it would be a bit susceptible to bumps and such, as well as being uncomfortable against my hide in an IWB holster.

    1917 sight replacement

My 1917 always shot low and to the left. I can't stand for anything to not hit where it looks, so years ago I filed down and bent the front sight to the left, thereby "sighting it in". It works, but the left-leaning front sight looks bad, and the shallow and rounded rear trough, combined with...

Original Centennial & Reissue m40 grip options

Rereading what Rover wrote, though, tempts me to go ahead and try a Hogue Bantam Grip. The backstrap is open on these, so maybe they can be whittled to fit.....or not.

Original Centennial & Reissue m40 grip options

Thanks for the info. I had about decided to go with Tyler adapters, but then seen the thread that cast doubt on if the company is still viable or not, so I guess I'll hold off on that for a bit.

Original Centennial & Reissue m40 grip options

I have an original 1959 Centennial that I like so much that I bought a "reissue" model 40 for my wife. The problem is the skinny little grips on both leave a bit to be desired when actually shooting them, which we do fairly often. I would like to get a set of Hogue Bantam (#61000) grips to...

    696 handload question

To 41 fan: First, thanks for the tip, I'll look that up. Also, I like your user name, as the .41 Magnum and .44 Special are my two personal favorites; different personalities, but both a pleasure. Murphydog: Your reasoning is sound and logical, and I have actually been shooting .44 Russian...

    696 handload question

By no means a newbie to reloading; been doing so for thirty years. I do, however, would like EDUCATED opinions on loading for a 696. Now, I've always fed my Colt SAAs, Ruger FlatTops, and m24-3s the standard Skeeter load of 7.5 grains of Unique behind a Keith bullet with great results. My Triple...

    So......Who loves BIG BORE Snubbies?

Nine 696s (eight of which were no-dash), nine 24-3s, a 3" m57, 3" m29, and a 3" Charter Arms Bulldog. I kind of like the big bore snubbies as well.
