I have a pre-war (1935) vintage 38/44 Outdoorsman. My "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson", 2nd edition, by Supica and Nahas, shows barrel lengths for this revolver as only 6 1/2 inches or 8 3/4 inches. But mine has a 5 inch barrel. Everything else about the gun appears standard. Does anyone...

H. Richard - Head separation just above the web sounds like case stretching from setting the shoulder back too far in resizing. Try neck sizing only, and your cases may last a lot longer.

Am I missing something here? It looks to me as if the barrel has not unscrewed, but has been turned in too far. If so, it would almost have to have left the factory that way.
