Can you diagnose this feeding problem?

Bent Rounds = New Bolt OK, friends the problem is fixed. S&W service got it back to me in a little over three weeks. They paid the shipping each way, I just had to find a box to pack it in. The repair order says they replaced the bolt. Today I put 150 rounds of mixed factory ammo through it...

    Which Go-NoGo Gauge?

My newish M&P-15 is back at its birthplace today to have the dreaded "bent rounds" feeding problem fixed. When it comes back, I'd like to check it with a pair of Go-NoGo gauges. For this rifle, do I want 5.56 or .223 gauges? Do I need to buy an expensive set or will the cheaper ones do the...

Can you diagnose this feeding problem?

No double feeds. I would note that the bolt *almost*closed on the bent rounds. I'm new to the AR platform and freaked out a little when I realized the hammer would drop when the bolt wasn't quite closed! No response yet from S&W. I may call them tomorrow if they don't respond to my inquiry...

Can you diagnose this feeding problem?

Bent Rounds M&P 15 Thanks guys! I searched on the term "bent rounds" and found several cases of M&P 15 owners with this problem going back several years. It seems that sending it in for bolt replacement is the way to go. It also does not speak well for S&W quality control if they are still...

Can you diagnose this feeding problem?

Thanks guys, I did buy it new. I hosed the gas tube with Break Free "Powder Blast" solvent today as part of a full clean and lube. Maybe that will help. I'm taking it to the range one more time with some .223 and some 5.56. If it still malfunctions, it is going back to S&W. Still open to...

Can you diagnose this feeding problem?

Thanks LV Steve! That sounds like a reasonable conclusion. I tried about 5 different brands of .223 and four different Magpul mags. All had various percentages of damaged rounds, but overall I'd say about 12% failed to chamber and fire. I don't know if it is significant, but the first round...

Can you diagnose this feeding problem?

My new M&P 15 Sport 2 has a weird feeding problem. It seems to feed military ammo OK, but civilian .223 ammo gets damaged in the feeding process and about 12% of the rounds won't chamber completely. I took the photo above with a macro lens. Has anyone seen this kind of cartridge damage...
