Rounds used were boxed under the brand Underwood High Performance Ammo, 500 S&W, 700 gr, Lead Wide Flat Nose Gas Checked rated at 1200 fps.
Hope that helps
Bought the gun just because I did not have one and was always curious about the 500. Have a 357 and 44 so was curious about the 500. Not an everyday gun but it sure makes an impression!! Have shot lower grain rounds but 700 is definitely not for the faint of heart! LOL
Shot my 500 today with 700 grain rounds my son bought me as a gift. Talk about a hand slapper. My son and I were the only ones willing to fire all five rounds. Two of our friends were not willing to fire more than two rounds due to the recoil.Definitely not a range round but WOW!
Is there a better grip than stock to absorb the recoil. My Taurus 44 has some nice wood grips but I think wood might not be a good idea for this particular gun.
Finally got to an outdoor range where I was able to shoot my 500. 300 grain had little recoil but when I went to 440 things were very different. Think I will hold off on the 500 and 700 grain for the moment and save my hand! LOL Gun is a beast!
For a 1K revolver there is no excuse for poor polishing and it would not have removed the serial # which is quite deeply etched. Pretty sad when the fit and finish of my 44 Taurus is better than the S&W at half the price. Hope it shoots better than it looks!
At least I am not the only one. I do not understand why its not. I sent the gun back because every inner surface was raw. They returned the gun polished with the exception of the area mentioned. No such issues with my Ruger or Taurus revolvers.
Spoke with S&W who advised that the gun was improperly polished. That said they issued a return tag and the never fired, brand new gun has been sent back.
I just received my 500 and noticed although the outside is somewhat polished the inside of the back strap and adjoining surfaces have a much darker almost dirty finish. I also see that the cylinder stop has already made its lines in the cylinder. Is this normal for a new gun purchased from Buds?
