I've done it a couple of times with mixed success. Silver np on my Shield came out great. Did not work well on my M&P .45 (gen 1). I think that the stamp is not as deep as my Shield and when I used non-acetone polish remover to remove the overage, it removed some of the polish from the recesses...
I purchased my new M&P 2.0 4.25" for $380 last May. However, it did not come with 4 mags, only 2. The good news is that the warranty is transferable so if any problems, sent it back.
I have a 1.0 also. It is fun to shoot even if it is a bit "snappy". i also have a 4.25" MP9 2.0. The larger frame reduces the recoil and it is even more fun to shoot. Plus the larger mag capacity really allows you to get into a rhythm.
And yes, you way over-paid (sorry)
I thought my 1.0 .45 needed more texture also, so I swapped its backstrap with one of the additional backstraps i received with my 2.0 9mm. Perfect fit and much better grip.
