    New 686... My first S&W...

Hi, Welcome to the forum. I have the same model 686-6+ 3" (with very similar grips also). If there's any downside to having this gun, it's that it's so great to look at that I hate to get it dirty. Enjoy it, and Merry Christmas!

Craig Spegel "full size" J frame grips ???

Hi, I just looked up Spegel's full-size "Granadillo" wood boot grips for a j-frame and then Uncle Mike's 59007 RB rubber full-size boots and they appear to be about the same size. I have a 360J with S&W full-size boot grips that look to be the same as the Uncle Mike's and I carry it in a size 03...

    Mod 360J in 38 Special sku 160360

FYI: Fobus holster for 640-3 and DeSantis leather j-frame belt holsters fit the 360J perfectly. I'm wearing one of the Desantis holsters now, while I'm typing this response riding in my wife's car. The 360J is a nice gun: light, compact, accurate (the gun-not so much this shooter); and it was...

Quick, before I commit to buying an M640 PRO

Hi, I agree withTAC about the 640 a s the 686. I'm fortunate enough to have a640-3 (not a 640 Pro-that sou 's like a great gun) and a 3" 686-6+. They are both "two of my favorite children". Lately I've been neglecting them and carrying a 360J .38. It's so light that I almost forget that I'm...

    "mid-size" ccw revolver?

Hi, How about the S&W 640? I have a 640-3 with the I/L a s I've been happy with it for the past couple of years. It's22 ounces unloaded. It's a .357, although I only carry Federal Hydro-shoks (.38+P) or Speer Gold dots (also .38+P) for S/D. If you're opposed to the I/L, the 640 Pro doesn't...

    My new 3 inch 686-6, 7 shot.

Probably not exactly right for this thread, but I just got new Altamont grips for my 686-6+ 3" and 640-3 snubnose. If I can figure it out I'm attaching a poor quality photo taken on my cell phone.

    Summertime carry options

Glock 43 in an Uncle Mike's pocket holster in the back pocket of my Levi's jean shorts or front pocket of cargo shorts. Spare mag in a velcro-flapped pouch other side behind hip. Almost completely not noticeable unless you know what you're looking for, and are standing behind me looking down in...

Wheelgunners, when you are out and about how many reloads do you carry?

When on-duty: Glock 19, 2 17-rd magazines on belt, 2 15-rd magazines in vest (body armor) pocket, Glock 26 also in (another) vest pocket. Off-duty: 640-3, 2 speedloaders, or 686-6+, 2 speedloaders, or Glock 43, 1 6-rd magazine.

    Glock 43 vs J frame

I think almost all of the comments in this thread were good ones, and on point. My response: I just recently got a Glock 43 and I alternate it with an S&W 640, an S&W 686+ 3", a Glock 26, a Glock 19, a Ruger LC9, and lastly, a Glock 30. Obviously I've kept smiles on a lot of holster...

    What's a Good Deal on USED 640 and 649??

I have a good friend who's got a really clean 640-3 2 1/8" barrel, 5-shot, internal lock, maybe 200 rounds total fired through it, Hogue-style "rubber" grips, has the box for it. Asking $500.00. If the buyer is outside of pick-up range will need to have it shipped to an FFL.

    Best "J" frame

I've normally carrying a 640-3 (with the internal lock) in a Don Hume belt holster and two speed loaders-one in each front pocket. The ammunition (furnished by my PD) is Speer Gold-dot 135 gr JHP .38+P. It isn't the lightest, but it conceals well, and is solid, secure, and accurate. Good luck...

The use of MIM parts - S&W's explanation

Herb, Thanks for the interesting and informative post concerning MIM parts and S&W's efforts to maintain quality control. I have a 640-3 that I enjoy quite a bit and frequently use for my EDC. I recently bought a 686+ 3" that I am also am pleased to spend "not enough" range time with, and that...

Concealed carry revolver - need advice

I recently retired from LE and had carried Glock 26 or Glock 19. Now mostly S&W 640-3 .357 in Don Hume OWB (no thumb break) or S&W 686+ 3" in an ? OWB with thumb break (with 2 speed loaders for either being carried). Both around 3:30-4:00 carry location. Usually under a loose T-shirt or untucked...
